Selected wrong xorg.conf file for nvidia screen tearing
#1
I'm new to linux. And was trying to prevent screen tearing with nvidia settings. My gpu is Geforce 1050ti. I selected the wrong xorg file and now i'm stuck with just a wallpaper and no xfce loading. The xorg.conf I selected was /usr/share/xresprobe. I also tried to purge nvidia drivers with "sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Revert back to what you started with. Then search the forums for compton, should be the second result.

I ran the live image of linux lite, and replaced the xorg.conf with the original. And logged in and ctrl-alt-f2 ran sudo apt install [xserver-xorg-video-nouveau]. Logged back in. And xfce is still not rendering. Not sure what is happening.

So you've already installed and configured compton?

I have compton installed just not added to startup. Don't know how to add it to start because xfce is not loading (just a wallpaper). Is the a way to add it to start up by pressing ctrl-alt-f2 and running a command?

I'm having no luck today.... Now when I boot I get busybox initramfs and can't get pass the screen. Think I would just be better off to reinstall at this point. Unless you have a solution for it. And i can follow the link to fix it.
