Brave Browser
#1
I don't expect Brave to become preinstalled with Linux Lite.  But I would like to see it considered as a Default Browser option.

I have been using it on my Linux Lite laptop and mobile devices for the past several weeks in lieu of Chrome.  I like how fast it is, the installed adblocker, the fact that it is based on Chromium, and that it was started by the co-founder of Mozilla, the maker of Firefox.  I have been a Chrome user, but the resource usage with Brave Browser running is much lower.  Brave Browser on my mobile phone performs better than the default browsers there.  The only downside I see with Brave so far is that, for now, it does not synchronize bookmarks from my laptop to my mobile device.

The marketing strategy is interesting: build a private browser with superior ad blocking, but also introduce a crypto token reward system for content providers to compensate them for the ad blocking.

Browsers are a very, very polarizing subject. Which one out of all of them to make default? We have considered this carefully.

I don't expect it to be the default.  If Preferred Applications didn't work in the past, we relied on Lite Tweaks to set the default ourselves.

My two cents:

For mobile, Android phone:  Firefox Klar browser (it has to be the "Klar" version of it).
For everything else:  Iridium browser (based on chromium, but heavily tweaked) and with Adblock Plus fully loaded.

Pathological tweaker.

[member=5239]torreydale[/member] I'm a little confused. Are you suggesting we replace FF with Brave in future versions of LL, or are you asking for Brave support to be added to Lite Tweaks?

I don’t expect it to replace Firefox as the default.  It would be nice to have it added to Lite Tweaks if the Preferred Applications program didn’t do the trick.  But since Brave has adblock included by default, I can understand why you wouldn’t want to do that.

AWESOME!! Thanks, Jerry. I had wanted to install brave for awhile now, but it had an intimidating-looking install process, with commands like curl; it wasn't just download, extract and press install. So I hadn't installed Brave on Linux because it seemed too confusing (although it's my preferred phone browser).  Thanks for providing an easy way for us to install the Brave browser!! Awesome!  8) Kudos for getting that done so quickly too.
Using Linux Lite for everything now. I put it on my desktop and my laptop. Woohoo!
