Low Max-Resolution with ATI X1650
#1

Good day, people of the inter-tubes!

I had a problem this week end with an installation of Linux Lite 3.4 32 bits.
Everything went fine Smile , except one thing Sad ... the system has an ATI X1650 and max-resolution listed was 1024x768.
On a wide-screen monitor, this is hug-a-ly!

I checked and the card is officially supported in Ubuntu 16.04.
Also, some other people have listed it on the hardware compatibility list on the LinuxLite web site with higher rez.

I temporarily took a ATI/AMD HD 6400 from another system and this one worked fine.
When I put back the X1650 though, maxed out at 1024 again.

So, I tried to install the Hardware Enablement Stack, just in case with :
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
and rebooted.

Did not work.

What else should I try?

Thanks, good link. Will try there software shortly.
On their forum though, the ATI x1600,x1650,RV530 or RV535 are mentionned only for 2013 and below, no 16.04. Sad
But, I learned that there is a new Hardware Enablement Stack for 16.04.3. Wink Dont think it will help unfortunately.

Is there a third party ATI driver package somewhere for older cards?
Maybe the card just doesn't detect the Plug and play monitor correctly?

Cheers!

We already provide all the main open source drivers out of the box, ati, nvidia, intel. Remove the Hardware Enablement Stack.

Ok, I'll remove it thanks.
Then I'll try the "Testing the driver" from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver just to be sure the open driver is installed.

I also saw yesterday that I can manually change the resolutions available with radmin or ramon or something.
When I find it again I'll give it a try.

Cheers!

I don't know how to mark the thread solve or even if I can, but...
I came across another ATI X16xx and this one worked fine.
Best guess is that the first one was a really low-budget/low-quality or weird OEM one, not even having a brand on it and all.
Of course, I'll blame it on the hardware because Linux Lite is amazing! Wink

Sorry to have bothered you guys! I implore thee forgiveness! _/¯\◯
