I used "Erase disk", so everything was done by the installer. Haven't tested manual partitioning and/or encryption yet.
I've saved the calamaris logs but didn't get around to evaluate them yet despite that calamaris didn't throw any GUI errors anyway.

It hangs, no error message, no time out. When I - after quite a while - press the power button, the machine immediately switches off.
If I get around to it later, I'll reinstall GRUB and see whether that makes a difference.

As assumed it had to do with the bootloader.

After the following steps the installed system booted successfully:
1- boot Live OS
2- mount partitions accordingly
3- chroot into installed system
4- mount efivarfs
5- (re)install GRUB
6- update GRUB
7- exit chroot and umount partitions
8- reboot

First...thanks for all you do! Unfortunately I had the same or similar installation issues like others reported. Ventoy, Balena, Fedora, Rufus no go. Set up partitions as listed after auto failed.  No go again.

But...previous versions installed fine (did a couple of sanity checks with 7.8) so looking forward to the RC2 after this hiccup. The live environment has been great so far and really do appreciate you guys. Cheers.

Just an FYI - RC1 has become quite redundant. Updates won't work and a few other things so testing RC1 is not necessary as of today. RC2 should be out by the end of the week and it's the only build that matters going forward.

After more careful thought, Samba removal isn’t something we’ll be adding to Lite Core, in 8.2 or otherwise, and here’s the reason.

Several of the built-in Lite tools depend on Samba — Lite Share Folder in particular, since sharing folders over your network needs it. Because of that, the package that installs the whole Lite admin suite (Lite Core, Lite Share Folder, Lite Updates, Lite About and the rest) depends on Samba being present.

So if Lite Core offered a Samba tick-box, removing it would drag the entire Lite suite out with it — including Lite Core itself. We’ve actually seen that happen, so Samba was deliberately taken off the removal list and a safeguard added so Lite Core can never uninstall the Lite tools by accident.

If you genuinely don’t want Samba, you can still remove it from a terminal — but be aware that doing so will also remove the Lite Software tools (Lite Share Folder and friends), so only go ahead if you’re comfortable with that trade-off.

For it to become a safe one-click option in Lite Core, we’d first have to separate Samba from the Lite tools, and that isn’t planned for 8.2. (further down the road? only if we get inundated with requests for it).
