Thanks for all of the replies. I find the function useful, but I seem to be the minority - fortunately I know how it's applied

I have a final suggestion with regard to Linux Lite's magical method of working with memory. I'm using an 8GB laptop and if I opened numerous programs and browser tabs on other Xfce distros the memory consumption rapidly increased, but this isn't the case with Linux Lite. I did read somewhere how you do this, but I can't remember where. Most other distros simply focus on the amount of RAM used after boot-up and they do initially use less RAM than Linux Lite, but few come close to Linux Lite's memory management when synchronously running many programs & browser tabs. Can you mention this point and how its done on your main webpage as I see this being a key point of what makes Linux Lite different to other distros.
The following video talks about Linux Lite and its average memory usage per Firefox tab and says 'a very remarkable result was obtained compared to other distributions'.

As a footnote, I've just come across the following which suggests that a distro which uuses minimal RAM is a sensible choice.

All the best.
