Why isn't it possible to upgrade from for example series 3 to series 4 while it is possible to upgrade pure ubuntu? Will LL ever get upgrade option between series?

The question may be, why not just do a fresh install every 5 years? Most people have a suitability functioning system (like me still on 3.8). The truth is, it's very difficult to implement as code. Yes, Ubuntu does it (using Python etc) but that's also system specific eg. Gnome and all of their unique other software. For laughs, Install 3.8 into a VM then do a release-upgrade to 18.04 then change the themes, implement all the new features of Series 4.x. See how much fun that is with all of the interruptions in the Terminal. Another consideration is Support. With 1000's of different configurations out there, it would be potentially a nightmare to support. Release upgrades also have the inevitable reputation of borking peoples systems. I can see the raging now. No, we'll stick at keeping it simply, fast and free

Here's Debian from 9 to 10. Certainly possible, but fraught with technical difficulty and often unsuccessful. Many admins use new installs instead.

In my opinion Ubuntu would be worse because of their installer and repo methods, and a praxis designed for social/consumer user specifics. I have only one machine with Debian 10 so far (a fresh install on an older one) and there is no rush on the other newer ones given that it could be hours even days of work.

I would add that reinstalling, unlike another OS starting with W and ending with indows, it doesnt take hours to reinstall and update the core.

What?! why isn't it exactly two dvds and one bit over? how microsoft now make overpriced deal with dvd factories? Or even more overpriced license to users.

If I would install from DVD I would shoot myself two times over. Luckyly (?) this is from a USB key...

Side note, just installed Linux Lite 4 instead of 3 on a oldish system... runs a tad slower but... solved video playback issues (was lagging every x seconds with compression boxes). Yay!
