no sound via speakers and very low in headphones

the subject says it all, there is a Little noise in the headphone and i can barely hear the music i tried alsamixer but it didn't work

When you are in alsamixer, are you using the default sound card that comes up? You want to try to press F6 and select you hardware sound card and turn it up from there. Let me know if that helps.
