If you cannot get into the ATI Control panel, and I can't envisage why since its just your user password that gets you in, then try installing arandr and setting your displays that way.

Valtam, thanks for all of your help. I finally found out the FGLR update dropped support for my GPU. After fussing with an old package from the AMD website, I revisited using the Xorg driver and got everything as I wanted.
