Snap versus Deb files
#1
Hey guys. I been going on an lil spree on apps. I love how a lot of the newer apps are getting better treatment. The fact of the matter is I have been wondering this. Last time I even brought this up in an fourm. They have said that the Deb file are too heavy unlike the snap packages. For me I can't tell the difference. I been also thinking Lite could benefit going to snap apps.

God not dead. He roaring like an lion.

hey guys im Bluzeo and Linux Lite user that got his own open source company!

We won't be integrating Snap until it becomes necessary to do so. Ubuntu has a track record of introducing technologies that don't get widely adopted, and end up getting either deprecated or cancelled.

Good!  I think it's cool that they are innovative and inventive, but any distro that is either

1. - Intended for new users or those new to Linux, or
2. - Aimed at being rock-stable for users (like me) who absolutely depend on reliability

MUST not include experimental, beta stuff that isn't ready for prime time.  I think SNAP is a cool idea and I hope it catches on and becomes a stable, reliable, trouble-free, cross-distro kinda thing.  But until it's "mature" and stable, it has no place in a newbie/stable distro.

Echoing all of RandomBoy's reply.  LL being rock-steady is essential for me, too; so would balk at idea of experimental stuff.
Don't worry about artificial intelligence.  Worry about natural stupidity.  Smile

I agree with not rushing into either Snap or Flatpak as standard at this point in time.  Of course Ubuntu is going with Snap and Linux Mint 18.3 will be supporting Flatpak so it is good to see what their experience will be.  I will say that I use Etcher as my ISO writer of choice and have installed its AppImage on all four of my Linux distros without experiencing any problem during install or use - highly recommended program.
I have not yet used any other AppImage - does any one else have experience with AppImage programs?
