To me it looks great and I like it. My only grief with it is that it takes a little too long to load (although I understand it needs to process/check the status).

I know for a fact that these php processes are not easy on the server. Check out the load when these are fighting up cos' bad intended people could knock out the site just by calling that page repeatedly, overwhelming the server with PHP processes.

In short, I'm not getting those glitches here Ralphy. Running on my main rig, not in a VM.

Well, if you don't see them on your main rig that means it is likely related to the way the VM is rendering these dialogs then. I've tried changing all setting I could, with Compositing enabled and disabled and I was still able to see them. It is not a big deal since it doesn't bother me. I just wanted to double check with you.

Yup I'm happy at this stage Ralphy. Thank you for sharing this concern with me.

I'm planning to release a new application with each release. For the record, Lite Sources will go into 3.6 and Lite Updates Notify will go into 3.4

That's also fine with me.

Maybe we should consider moving apps to YAD (those that allows us to do so without much hassle at least). YAD allows us to handle dialogs a little better (although it is a bit more work to get it right) but the outcome is certainly more appealing since we can have more buttons in the interface as well as options such as "fixed" so they don't get maximized out of proportions and "skip taskbar" so certain dialogs do not have to be shown in the taskbar, etc. Obviously we shouldn't rush it  or over work it. All apps we have now have been mostly polished already and they don't look or feel out of place.

Agreed. What are your thoughts on the first app to migrate to Yad?

I think Lite Tweaks would benefit from the tab feature in Yad. This would allow us to place the categories in tabs and expand the number of utilities without having the dialogue run off the screen.

Well, right now I would suggest that we stay focused in one app at a time so that we do not leave work half done all over. With that said, I think we should polish lite-updatesnotify some more and finish up moving it to YAD (which is mostly done already).

I've been looking at lite-updatesnotify and I think we have too many more dialogs available on it than it really needs. For example, this is an application that only sudoers can manage. Instead of allowing users without admin privileges launch the app and try to set a schedule only to fail and nag about it, maybe we should reconfigure it to ask for admin password when the schedule is selected and the user clicks "Set". That eliminates 2 additional dialogs and extra loops for users. That's the kind of things that I would like for us to focus on since simplicity is a core part of LL - before we move to some other app(s).

In regards to your Lite Tweaks comment, I like the idea of trying YAD for Lite Tweaks but the TAB option is not really a convincing solution in my opinion. Picture it this way... currently users launch Lite Tweaks and the are presented with all options (which can be arranged clicking on columns headers) in one single window. That means users have a full view of the options we have in a single/easy-to-focus window.

If we start "hiding" (organizing) options in tabs, we may end up just overloading the interface... making users click more times for the same options the already had in a single dialog. This is counter productive and it may turn from "being tabbed organized" to be users-hunt clicking... food for thoughts.

I'm off to bed now. Later!

Go ahead with lite-updatesnotify Ralphy. Let's stay on that until it's ready.

Have a great sleep!

Jerry, I think you should consider removing the checks for ISOs Mirrors and leaving just the check for repositories. It really hurts the page loading time and doesn't offer too much of a benefit for users.

What are you using to check these remote servers? ping? fping?

I've been to countless sites where you have to wait for the page to load before you get the information you need. I appreciate your concerns, but this will stay in place. It's a valuable service.
