zenity and yad
#1

Jerry.

Is it there any specific reason why we don't use yad instead of zenity? yad is in the default repository but it isn't installed by default. It has much more features than zenity and we can take advantage of that. ??

We avoided Yad in the past because the package wasn't well maintained at Ubuntu. I was concerned that it would fade out all together and leave our users high and dry. That still seems to be the case. Sourceforge reports version 0.37, apt reports 0.27 (August 2014) for 16.04 base. We could use the Yakkety builds, they work on 16.04 - http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/cor...e/base/yad Thoughts.

I guess we should try it at some point. Perhaps developing a couple apps based on it or something.

Agreed. I've added the latest Yad to LL's repository.

Code:
sudo apt-get install yad

Jerry,

It looks like YAD UI is a little glitchy rendering dialogs. Almost each window shows a little of a shadow like it resizes to the defined size from a bigger window. I have migrated Lite Updates Notify to YAD as a test and I can see this rendering glitch every now and then. It is hard for you to try to picture what I'm trying to explain here, so I will be creating a video to show you what it is like. Also, I would like for you to try it in your own systems if possible because this may have to do with VMs specifically (although I doubt it cos' I can even play HD video in my VMs).

Let me record a quick video to give you the idea... and then we should decide whether to actually implement YAD or not.

It doesn't seem to happen on every dialog, which is even more weird for my amusement :( and I really like YAD because we can make the X window button actually exit out the application... I don't know if we will implement it fully, partially, or if we will just don't use it at all... So let me create that video and talk about it a bit to see what we agree upon afterwards.

Stay tuned. Will post it in a bit.

Here, I was lazy and didn't edit the video or anything but I'm sure you can figure out what I'm pointing out.

Thanks for the info Ralphy. If you could send me an archive of both apps, I'll test here.
