New Customize Your Desktop page for Help Manual
#11

Thank you for organising this feedback gold_finger. It will prove valuable as we continue to strive to not only make linux easier to use on the Desktop, but the documentation that accompanies it.

File permissions: We can put that in the Manual.
Wrong PPA for Google & Steam: This will be fixed in the next release, I don't think it would be necessary to include this as the Manual should only reference long term information, and not things that will be there one day, irrelevant the next.

Quick Start: We can put that in the Manual.
Beginners FAQ: We can start off with some elementary Q&A and build on it with time.
Terminology: I favour a Glossary since our format should closely match that of a Manual.
Troubleshooting: This is a section that could be long winded. Our Manual format is brief explanation, followed by a picture, rinse and repeat. See below for my view on using external inks in the Manual. Troubleshooting is currently performed on the Forums. We'd be doubling up here.

Youtube channels: I think it is best to keep external links out of the Manual as much as possible, in my experience these are a pita to maintain and when a link goes dead, it gives people the impression we are poor maintainers. There are some links currently in the Manual but we should not get to the point where they become a part of how we provide information.
More basic terminal commands: Agreed, lets leave it as it were intended. The terminal is not something noobies should be stressing over, showering them with more goes against our aims. We give a few basic commands, I'm happy with that.

Hope this can help you with "Customize Your Desktop" Page

https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index...3#msg10323
File permissions: We could add that. People migrating from Windows know very little about that.
Wrong PPA for Google & Steam: Well, we could use few sed commands to fix that. That's much easier than explaining in a manual. I can't see this is the case with LL 2.2
Installed a few days ago and everything looks fine with the Personal Package Archives

I think the time after LL 2.4 should largely be dedicated to creating the future of the Help Manual.
Here is a quick mock up of what I envisage the front page looking like. The whole idea is to have the front page hold all the links to the pages the Manual will contain. Each Link will have an icon that represents that category eg. Sound will have a speaker icon, and so on. Keep in mind this is a layout mock up, so it doesn't contain all the links the final version will hold. Thoughts on the layout?

I like it. It's intuitive and well organized. It will be a nice surprise for the members once it's ready.

I've found an awesome template that I think would be perfect for our Help Manual.

Imagine each of the boxes with a Faenza icon representing that Category, eg. Video, Sound, Software etc. As you mouse over each box, the title of that box would also show, the box would then link to that section of the Manual. Of course this is also mobile friendly.
The Menu on the left would have links to FAQ, Glossary, etc. I think this is very modern, fast, user friendly and has a lot of potential.

I've found another layout that is really nice. I've done some work on it tonight:

I missed this post Jerry.
Checking it out....
It looks fine and simle to use. Since the .pdf version will be on the desktop, is this going to be only for arm devices?

Alright. Too bad there is no much x86 phones and tablets. It would be exciting to have linux lite on a tablet. I once had some linux distro (can't remember the name) on a phone's sdcard. It had LXDE and was compiled for ARM architecture. I could see the desktop with VNC software. Didn't had much software though.
