One little thing but I'll be damned if I know what causes it.
I had a 2gig plus soldered in is a 1 gig ram stick for a total of 3gigs.
My inxi ram readout, conky readout, and top show 875MB of ram.

So to be thorough  I yanked out the 2 gig stick and re-inserted the 1 gig stick. Just to test.

Code:
# dmidecode 2.12 SMBIOS 2.4 present. Handle 0x1000, DMI type 16, 15 bytes Physical Memory Array         Location: System Board Or Motherboard         Use: System Memory         Error Correction Type: None         Maximum Capacity: 8 GB         Error Information Handle: Not Provided         Number Of Devices: 2 Handle 0x1100, DMI type 17, 27 bytes Memory Device         Array Handle: 0x1000         Error Information Handle: Not Provided         Total Width: 64 bits         Data Width: 64 bits         Size: 1024 MB         Form Factor: DIMM         Set: None         Locator: DIMM_A         Bank Locator: Not Specified         Type: DDR3         Type Detail: Synchronous         Speed: 800 MHz         Manufacturer: 80CE000080CE         Serial Number: 00000000         Asset Tag: 01000000         Part Number: M378B2873CZ0-CF7  Handle 0x1101, DMI type 17, 27 bytes Memory Device         Array Handle: 0x1000         Error Information Handle: Not Provided         Total Width: 64 bits         Data Width: 64 bits         Size: 1024 MB         Form Factor: DIMM         Set: None         Locator: DIMM_B

Bios sees all 2gig of ram. But Top, Conky and

Code:
$ free -m             total      used      free    shared    buffers    cached Mem:          874        476        397        42        25        245 -/+ buffers/cache:        204        669 Swap:            0          0          0

I have not booted into the old kernel 3.13 to see if things/readings improve or what.
The netbook boots and runs like a raped ape though. The OCZ SSD has mad read/write speeds
though at
Quote:2. OCZ Deneva 2 SLC

Interface: SATA III 6Gbps
Available Capacities: 50GB – 200GB
Price: N/A
550MB/s read
530MB/s write
Random 4K Write: 80K IOPS

which might make up for the ram speed. I don't know though.
Kinda weird. The story of my life I guess.  8)

Yep, something got missed when compiling the kernel for ram recognition. Sorry I am the bearer of bad news. I will be uninstalling . 3.16 I guess. No sweat as I am a team member for AntiX and am used to testing new kernels for Anti.

Code:
harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:~$ free -m             total      used      free    shared    buffers    cached Mem:          1968        836      1132        80        27        385 -/+ buffers/cache:        423      1545 Swap:            0          0          0 harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:~$ uname -a Linux harry-Latitude-XT2 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:31:42 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

Edit: Kernel removed

Code:
harry@harry-Latitude-XT2:~$ sudo update-grub [sudo] password for harry: Generating grub configuration file ... Tested 3.15 kernel on a desktop (Intel i5-4670K Intel HD Graphics 4600) works great so I have pushed it to my laptop(Intel Core i5-560M Intel HD Graphics). So far my laptop boots faster and work better.

I pushed the 3.16 kernel to the desktop (Intel i5-4670K Intel HD Graphics 4600) fails to boot. (grub does not see a kernel) oh well just a test machine. I will reload and try again.

New 3.17 Linux Lite kernel is available for 32 & 64bit machines. As per usual, please read the warning below.

Look forward to your feedback Smile

Open a terminal and do:

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-3.17.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.17.0 -y

Ignore any errors in the terminal.

WARNING: This should NOT be tested on your everyday machine unless you know how to remove the kernel from a tty. If you have a spare pc or laptop lying around with ATI, nVidia or Intel graphics cards we really need your feedback and your results.

Quick Test and Feedback, Install went fine, Touchscreen accepts finger input without Pen (which I do not have anyways)
Sound, Wifi, touchpad and secondary trackpad inputs work OK. Graphics are OK. Here is pertinent info.

I will be keeping this kernel on here for awhile since I see no show stopping issues like on previous kernel tests.
Looks like a winner Valtam. I will install and test on my Compaq CQ57 later to see if that hardware likes it also.
