Plenty of work to be done yet. Nothing Russian Linux will likely complete until this completes.

I'm surprised to be honest there isn't a state backed OS for Russia.

You have confused me, as I cannot decide whether you are asking me seriously or not. I would like to return your question to you: are there any countries in the world where operating systems and distributions are state-supported? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Yes. I hear, such programs (blocking information leakage) only serve to console users and dull their vigilance since they do not help at all.

NeoKylin certainly qualifies in China, but I'm not sure Astra is around anymore in Russia. Wow I just looked it up. Yes Astra is still in existence and gaining in success, and certainly qualifies as at least a state darling if not entirely state sponsored.

I have to admit to a chuckle at this point though, as of course such non-community  models only create more security holes, not fewer. Special strings by special people are just hacker bait.

This article on the Russia Nation-OS applies here, but is not dated. Sad

But, Astra Linux seams to go in the "general" direction.

As for State-Sanctionned. There was a lot of misinformation about this, specially in 2014 when China banned Windows 8.
They even have a "special" Windows 10 version.

Russia, China and well, amost EVERY country do NOT use Windows for Strategic, Defense and other critical systems.
Same would go that you dont use your own familly sedan on Diplomatic Missions I guess.
But propaganda and free Microsoft bashing is always popular. Wink

Cheers!

Journalists are good at making up sensations to make them sellable, and economics operates on the same principles - to make money. Hence, no profit - no support. Is it profitable for a state government to support an operating system which is intellectual and proprietary property of the owner, not the state? No. That's all that can be said about it.

Yeah true Journalism today is hard to find. At least this article mentions sources, etc. which is above the "internet norm". Wink
Reporters seam more to create the news then "report" it. Internet I guess made it worst with everything instanteneous.
I know it's quite "American" but the show "Newsroom" is so awesome about the "Real" news-information, stroungly recommended.

I don't watch TV or read the "regular Joe" newspapers, too much BS and publicity. "Fake news" is more common than not, mesa thinks! (*shut up Jar Jar*)

Cheers!
