Lite Updates Notify Development Thread
#11

I'm guessing his '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxlite.list/linuxlite.list' is a typo. I'd like to see some cat output for that path. The xenial replacing it with citrine issue has cropped up several times before. It even happened in 2.x Series.

Then we need to look at what's causing this because that's not a default file which needs to carry "xenial" anyways. Now, this brings more questions than what it answers...

1- Why doesn't that happen in my installation?
2- Do we have any other known case where citrine got replaced with xenial in that file? This is assuming that the user in this later thread's affirmation is correct when he said it says xenial and not citrine.

The fix shouldn't be difficult at all but before we add code to fix something it would be good to know what breaks it in he first place.

That hasn't been discovered yet.

I wish I could somehow duplicate it. Maybe this user had an old upgraded install in place and he did the same thing for the previous OS without reporting it.

I've looked at the code and there is nothing at least on what I see on gitup. I did find a minor thing but this is unrelated to the update issue.

Code:
cat /etc/issue
Linux Lite 3.4 LTS \n \l

Linux Lite 3.4 LTS \n \l ??????

There is an extra \n \l there that doesn't seem to belong. I know where it is coming from... will get that leftover removed unless you tell me there is a purpose for it.

Just so you know where I stand right now:

- I believe that the code in GH is a lot cleaner and has improved within this period with the work we have done.
- I do not believe there is anything there causing issues right now.
- There is code in GH that can be improved, jus like I did with misko_2083 application here: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/tutor.../#msg30587 turning 113 lines into 30 lines with more features and cleaner code, but that on GH can be cleaned as needed and I don't see an issue to correct there right now. Maybe fresher eyes could help us check it.
- I do not believe Lite Updates Notify has issues. After my post today I realized that users were in fact not seeing the notification because their systems where up to date, which is by design the application's purpose.
- I believe there are users having problems reaching the master server, specially those far away from USA, but that is random as wit every connection and the master server is usually reachable.

I dropped the MD5SUM checker because I'm weary of the right click list getting to long. I'd rather reserve space on the right click for future ideas that will get more usage. Your code for that is very good. It moves it from right click to the Menu. I've yet to decide whether or not to include it in the OS.

Thank you for the kind words. You decide wether to include it or not  ;D

I would consider it though. These are small tools that makes Windows users more comfortable to check an MD5sum of a downloaded LL ISO than having them fire up a terminal window to do it. These are not apps which require constant maintenance so...

Question, are these leftovers in the code as I suspect or is it there a purpose for it?
