Fully upgradeable system
#2
The question may be, why not just do a fresh install every 5 years? Most people have a suitability functioning system (like me still on 3.8). The truth is, it's very difficult to implement as code. Yes, Ubuntu does it (using Python etc) but that's also system specific eg. Gnome and all of their unique other software. For laughs, Install 3.8 into a VM then do a release-upgrade to 18.04 then change the themes, implement all the new features of Series 4.x. See how much fun that is with all of the interruptions in the Terminal. Another consideration is Support. With 1000's of different configurations out there, it would be potentially a nightmare to support. Release upgrades also have the inevitable reputation of borking peoples systems. I can see the raging now. No, we'll stick at keeping it simply, fast and free Smile
