Make sure you uninstall the nVidia driver you are using now. Reboot then do:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-304

But you say you have already tried it so...tricky.

You could try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

Again, make sure you uninstall the nVidia driver you are using now. Reboot, then try the above.
