Did you confirm that the md5sum of the downloaded ISO file matches the one shown on the download page? Maybe your ISO file is bad. (I'm leaning toward this because LL should work if you had no problems with the other distros you listed.)
If md5sum is confirmed good, boot into your LL USB, open a terminal and enter this command to list the basic specs of the computer:
Copy entire output of command and follow directions on this post to paste the output back here for us to see. Maybe something about the computer will pop out at us as a possible problem.

Do you have the shutdown problem on both the live USB and the installation you performed?
