Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - litelovelinux - 04-06-2015 I'll start of by saying I've been using Linux Lite for a while so I'm quite familiar with it's comings and goings. When 2.4 came out I immediately ran the Lite Update in 2.2 on my htpc it upgraded with no issues. On an SSD it runs great. I have a smaller PC, Athlon 5350/ASrock MB, that i decided to install it on and therein lies my dilemma. I can boot into Linux Lite via USB stick or Dvd and loads up fine but I can't log out. I keep gettings this message received error while trying to logout did not receive a reply. possible causes include:the remote application did not send a reply. the message bus security policy blocked the reply. the reply timeout expired or the network connection was broken after this, I tried every route possible to get it right. 3 different usb drives 5 different linux usb install apps (including the windiskimager recommended by the LL team) 1 burned dvd via dvd drive/usb Xubuntu/LXLE/lubuntu all installed without issue Actually installing Linux Lite...reboot and it still hangs and gives the error message I tried the same with the old Linux Lite 2.2...usb or dvd...same error message My HTPC it runs great, no issues, older phenom II and my laptop (Intel)...loads and runs fine...no errors the error message usually takes about 2 or 3 minutes to pop up. If I just surf or run the apps on the Live dvd or USB drive, it runs fine. As soon as I click on the log out/off button...it hangs and the above mentioned issues happen. Is this due to the newer hardware (CPU/MB) ? I think Linux Lite has the best balance between Lubuntu and Xubuntu. It's a shame I can't get it running on this little pc...any ideas? Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - gold_finger - 04-07-2015 Did you confirm that the md5sum of the downloaded ISO file matches the one shown on the download page? Maybe your ISO file is bad. (I'm leaning toward this because LL should work if you had no problems with the other distros you listed.) If md5sum is confirmed good, boot into your LL USB, open a terminal and enter this command to list the basic specs of the computer: Code: inxi -Fxz Copy entire output of command and follow directions on this post to paste the output back here for us to see. Maybe something about the computer will pop out at us as a possible problem. P.s. Do you have the shutdown problem on both the live USB and the installation you performed? Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - N4RPS - 04-07-2015 Hello, litelovelinux! Welcome to the Linux Lite community. My newest little Dell netbook uses an AMD A6 CPU, and I also have an issue with logout/shutdown when trying to use LL 2.X. No errors for me, mind you - it just takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R for the logout window to finally appear, whether LL was installed in Legacy or UEFI modes. I didn't want to mess with things too at the time - I just installed Ubuntu MATE instead. However, with LL 2.4 now out, and with my preferring both Linux Lite and its unique community, as soon as I back up what I have now, I'll try again. Perhaps I can find that post, or perhaps gold_finger can remember what he told me at the time better than I can. I think it had something to do with X. Also, I THINK doing something like [CTRL-ALT-F1], [CTRL-ALT-F8], then [CTRL-ALT-F1] might have temporarily broken the catatonic logout/shutdown spell somehow... 73 DE N4RPS Rob Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - litelovelinux - 04-07-2015 the md5 hash matches on both the LL 2.2 and 2.4 iso...no problems there Quote:P.s. yes..either way...i can perform an install before i try to log out of a live session and then it wants to restart...i click on it and the same...it hangs...i reset the pc and go to desktop...try to logoff...hangs...freezes...error comes later Quote:inxi -Fxz Code: GLX Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on AMD KABINI GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 10.1.3 Direct Rendering: Yes i changed the bus id numbers to 0...i thought it was maybe a hardware id number(like a mac address)...specific to each board...if its not and its integral to solving this issue, let me know and i'll post em I tried uefi and legacy and legacy is the only one that works on boot I tried the ctrl..alt method and the screen went totally black...locked up to a blinking cursor in the corner i like lubuntu but its just not the same when you use LL...it just doesnt have the right amount of software that LL does. Xubuntu is fine but its a little slower loading that Lubuntu and LL. Same RAM usage but still slower loading I noticed. Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - demag - 04-07-2015 Hello, As mentioned in my introductory post I have the same logout problem with the same error message. If anyone needs any info just ask. I was wondering if when I click the menu button to logout the window is there but somehow hidden? Just a thought. I'll do an "Inxi" and post the results. Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - demag - 04-07-2015 My inxi -Fxz result:- Code: d@d-GA-78LMT-USB3:~$ inxi -Fxz Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - gold_finger - 04-07-2015 @litelovelinux and demag, Sorry to say this, but I really don't know why that's happening and don't really know where to go on this. I tried doing a search for a couple of the error lines litelovelinux posted, but didn't find anything helpful. If the wording of those errors was not exact, maybe that's why I didn't see much on them in a search -- I don't know. (Try plugging some error messages into this search engine yourselves -- maybe you'll have better luck.) Hopefully someone else has more of a clue than me and can give you better way to track down what's going on. In the meantime, just for the heck of it, lets try something different to shutdown. Chances are it won't make a difference, but who knows? Can't hurt anything. Right-click your panels and choose Panel -> Panel Preferences -> Items (tab) -> "+" -> (select) Action Buttons -> Add -> Close -> Close. That will add an action button to the panel that you can use for shutdown, restart, etc. (It may look like a button, or it may have your username in place of a button.) Click that and choose the option to shutdown. Report back results. P.s. From your inxi outputs, it doesn't look like either one of you are using a proprietary AMD graphics driver. I have no idea whether that might affect anything or not -- just pointing that out for others who might know if it could be the source of the problem. Wait and see if someone else comments on that before messing around with installing new drivers. However I don't have a small action button on the panel but a large-ish square on the desktop with my name on. ;D But clicking on it does indeed log me out correctly. I suppose the next question is: can I superimpose it on or even replace the official shutdown button with it? Also is there any way I can resize it? But these are just minor details really. Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Re: Linux Lite 2.4 won't log out...Live CD or installed - N4RPS - 04-09-2015 Hello! Yes, the Action Button on the panel serves as a workaround. So, what is the difference in this menu appearing right away as a panel item, but needs a coon's age to respond when you try every OTHER way to log out? Unless I am mistaken, this is an LL-specific issue. As that, this needs to be looked at by someone... |
