Actually, not enough knowledgeable members have the free time to hang out on IRC. They have lives like regular folk.
AntiX has a channel. And Mepis. They can be dead most of the time.
If I was you. I'd join the UBUNTU freenode channel. Problem with that. Lots of flotsam and jetsam to sift through.
