I am new to using linux.

I want to share a folder so that I can access it with archos player on other devices like my phone or tv.

why is this so hard?!

I have tried a couple of online tutorials but none of them seem to do anything.

Can someone help?

I did follow the Linux Lite guide, but it didn't work after that.

I managed to get it working by:
1. renaming the laptop. The hostname generated automatically on install was too long apparently.
2. turning off the firewall.
3. switching to VLC instead of Archos.
4. editing the smb.conf file to allow guests etc.
