Having an issue where the brightness on my laptop is at the lowest setting and the F2 and F3 control does not work. This is where they are supposed to be by default.  This is on my HP laptop. Anything would be helpful.

I restarted my Lenovo Thinkpad W520 and it brought up the normal options for interrupting startup etc. but whenever I select normal startup it loads for a while, shows a black screen with the below text, before resuming loading and repeating. I have very little knowledge about computers but from the searching I've done I can only find results for [IBUS] faults, not [engine!] faults like the ones displayed. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this issue, I'm very new to Linux and am not sure what issue this fall under.

Hi all,  Smile

I´ve got a question for better general understanding.

When clicking on "Menu" (the leftmost entry in the taskbar I´m also presented with a search-field which helps with quickly finding a particular programme/app. That´s great.

I entered the search term "find" and got the following results:
(it´s a German setup but you certainly get what I´m referring to)

As you can see there´s an entry "find starten", i.e. "start find". It´s the fifth entry from the top.
It´s attached to a gears icon which certainly means it´s not a dedicated programme, rather some sort of setting or service.
At least that´s my guess...  :003:

Hmm, I was wondering what the effect of clicking on it might be. So I clicked on it but nothing seems to have happened.
I looked in lnav for potential log entries but found nothing. :023:

Does anyone know what my clicking on it might have done?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Many greetings from Rosika  :wave

Hi,
I installed LL from a disk a few days ago. Yesterday, all of a sudden, the panel, which is normally at the bottom of the screen disappeared. Since then my desktop is blank with nothing but a cursor. I can still right click and access applications, but I have no panel and no ability to shut down etc. For any help I would be very grateful.

Hi all,  Smile

I just stumbled over some curious behaviour. The "locate" command doesn´t seem to include my home directory.

On my desktop I created a text-file "prov.txt", then ran "sudo updatedb" but
"locate prov.txt" didn´t return any results.  :023:

The "find" command however doesn´t have any difficulties finding it.
Is it possible that the home directory is excluded by "locate"?

Many thanks in advance and many greetings.

Hello my friends! I wanted to know how do I leave LibreOffice with the Brazilian Portuguese interface? The writing language is in PT-BR, but the interface is in English, and even if I put "sudo apt install libreoffice-l10n-pt-br" in the terminal, the message appears that the latest version is already up to date.

How do I make the LibreOffice interface in Brazilian Portuguese? Thanks.

EDIT 1: I've figured it out, guys. I installed version 7.4.4 and it's already in PT-BR.

Who would like to give it a go? Would love to hear some feedback please.
Text to speech is enabled so if you don't want to hear the voice, make sure you put a tick in the MUTE box first.
