| Beginner Question - Partitions |

Want to setup Linux Lite to run from a USB memory stick - the specification is a USB 3.2 64GB.
Firstly, the Linux is just going to be used to do some basic familiarisation with Linux, maybe try some LUA scripting. Appreciate that 64GB is probably way oversized for what I need but it is what I happened to have spare on hand.
I've read the instructions and understand what I need to do, but would appreciate some advice on partitioning.
I know I need a ROOT partition - given I've got loads of space, how big should I make this - I have plenty of space so feeling I should make this generously sized to accomodate any future updates and software downloads.
The instructions I have read also talk about a SWAP partition but I wonder whether I actually need one. I have 16GB RAM and I'm only intending light use for Linux - so will I ever need a SWAP. I also understand that if I wanted to use hibernation then I should make the SWAP bigger than the RAM (so in my case bigger than 16GB) but I'm not interested in hibernation - so again do I need a SWAP at all. Also read that using a SWAP on USB is not great as the access is relatively slow and using it prematurely ages the USB memory.
Then do I need other partitions to keep my stuff separate from the ROOT - this is also better for security as it gives you more control over encryption. But again, I'm not really bothered by this so is there anything wrong with just having one ROOT partition the full size of the memory stick.
The only thing that occurs is whether I could have a partition that could be accessed by both Linux Lite and Windows 10 - is that possible - again not sure I have a real need for this but I could see how it might be useful.
Cheers,
Nigel

Hello everyone!,
I am a very smart skilled linux user. I must say Linux Lite 6.2 has impressed me so much I made it my default Linux distibution on my desktop! I am actually going to install it as well on my 2012 macbook pro and my mid 2009 imac. I love this distro and am glad I gave up Linux Mint after their founder Clem's antisemtic remarks! I will be very active here trying to help people out.
Blessings!

Hi Guys
I'm using Linux Lite since several years. I Love it for its performance and simple user interface.
While migrating to the latest Ubuntu 22.04 based images I've faced remarkable performance decrease for the boot process.
I've analyzed this with `systemd-analyze blame`... and on all my machines the networking-service seemed to be the problem with 25-30 seconds delay on every boot.
Digging deeper, I isolated the a seemingly pre-installed if-up.d hook: as the source. So I gain all the boot performance back with a simple
sudo chmod -x /etc/network/if-up.d/update
IMHO this is a bug. I can't understand why this should be required.
I guess each and every lite user is suffering from this. Or could it be that it derives from third-party, that I'm used to install on all these machines?
If we need a regular 'apt update' call for lite ... the if-up.d hooks seem to be the wrong location. :error
Can we fix this in a future release?
For detailed boot analysis, see my attached .svg images in the .zip.

Hello,
I'm experiencing the same problem on my laptop.
I have a laptop with no OS, installed win10 and dual booting with linuxLite.
Everything works fine but when i suspend my linuxlite session, the screen turns off and the power button flashes at a slow interval which is the expected behavior.
When i move the mouse/press keyboard key to "wake up" the laptop i see the power button staying on "ON" mode but the screen stays off and i can't see anything although i can hear my CPU/fan waking up.
I don't know if it's a GPU problem, i have a Legion-5-15ACH6H laptop with a NVIDIA GA106M [GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q] driver.
On the additional driver tab i have "Using X;Org X server - Nouveau display driver from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (open source)" activated
Thanks for the help

Dell Latitide. UK keyboard. operating windows 7. Introducing Linux ( LL) to new user.
Tried to install ( Dual Boot) LL 6.2. Source LL6.2 from LL website. Post download checksum confirmed OK.Etcher iso to externalusb stick..
Installed in parallel with existing Window7 OK. London timezone, UK English keyboard, English UK language No encryption. Legacy install. Password Lower and upper case letters - no symbols. Keys used have no addition symbol options.Installation appears to be OK Grub option OK, Log on OK using chosen password.Checked settings post installation for language=English UK (Deleting English US option), Keyboard English UK. Wifi setup OK. - i.e. router password, as typed, accepted.
Checked keyboard output by creating text in Open Office Document. All keys performing as expected.
HOWEVER on trying to use Lite Tweaks, unable to authorise changes using log on password..Ditto on trying to use Package Manager - Authorisation not possible - Password rejected.
Ideas / remedies appreciated to solve this problem. Ideally without having to reinstall - adjust partitions etc.Thank you.
