You put a smile on my face this morning so we're quits bro, one thing you rarely get with videos is good feedback, you sussed the bits that matter, the good quality video and small size!

If I put it into Openshot to it will be 10 times as big which is OK for utube but I put that on dropbox so I wanted to keep the size down.

That one was recorded with Vokoscreen which is developed by a German team for Debian stable but it don't run on Ubuntu 14.04 respins but on 14.04 you can use Simplescreenrecorder(SSR) which is equally as good but lacks the webcam bit at the moment.

I posted a link to a video on a forum a few years back from a live streaming webcam of bald eagles nesting in Vancouver, I posted it late evening and went to bed but when I awoke in the morning there were 4 pages of folk thanking me in the most profuse way, it brought a tear to this ancients eye.

Lots of folk only had dial up connections and they had never been able to see any video before.

I just installed simplescreenrecorder (ssr) and it works well. I have one audio query though. Bear in mind it's the first time I've used a screen recorder of any kind. When I record myself commenting on a youtube video with its audio playing, on playing back the ssr mkv file, the audio on youtube is so low I can't hear it. Other audio (ie me speaking) is fine. I've tried fiddling about eg increasing youtube video to max volume but it's still way too low even with laptop audio at max.

Any ideas?

The 'new on-board upgrade feature' seems to have some hiccups to upgrade an existing version and to take care about the home directory. Perhaps only the help-text is imprecise...
So please advice what's the working procedure to upgrade 2.2 > 2.4 if there is any yet or to come soon!?

I have two dual boot ( win 8.1 /Linux Lite ) machines side by side - I can access shares on either with Windows or the Linux machines with the Windows BUT I can't figure out how to share between the two Linux boxes - Dolphin or Konqueror ask for passwords which I don't know.

How can I set up the two Linux boxes to share drives with each other ?

If you are experiencing shutdown/logout problems and/or are experiencing unusually sluggish performance when trying to perform certain tasks (eg. using "gksu" to run a gui program as root) and have an AMD graphics card, below is a possible solution.  (These types of problem do not apply to all AMD cards -- just a few.  So if you are not having any problems, leave your system alone.)

With some help from its creator, I was able to successfully complete the procedure documented in the YouTube video.

I created your script on the desktop, and made it executable. So far, it seems to work right away, This is very good, because in an actual install, the action button is just as slow to respond as the Whisker Menu is. Additionally, the gksu/gksudo command, or anything else requiring root password (except terminal sudo/su) takes 30-40 seconds to appear after being called on.

It IS a driver issue with certain AMD Radeon HD video cards!. As I see it all, seem AMD, the X11 folks, and XFCE are blame-shifting the whole thing back and forth. Meanwhile....

Let's see... I had figured out that X11 had something to do with it - specifically, X11 as XFCE uses it. Misko's reference to the video driver was the missing piece of the puzzle.

If you're affected by this in LL and XFCE, creating the following file should fix it. If the fixes the OP's issue, then I guess this one can be flagged as SOLVED.


Copy  the following lines, and paste them into nano with [SHIFT-CTRL-C]:

  Section "Device"
      Identifier "Radeon"
      Driver "radeon"
      Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
  EndSection

Press [CTRL-O] then [ENTER] to save, and [CTRL-X] to exit. Reboot. For me, LL is now as snappy as it ought to be!

On my Samsung, which has no latency issues, this report also took a bit of time to generate. IT has a Radeon HD *6320*, and the width is *32 bits*. Same driver  - radeon. (I wonder if THAT could have something to do with it?)

I sure hope an overall solution is out there for this. These long delays are going to drive me to forget about running LL on this particular netbook...
