I had just saved some changes to an odt. file this morning, closed liber office and on right clicking said file, to copy to USB, the screen darkened slightly, recovered & this weird message box appeared :

Could not grab your mouse.

A malicious client may be eavesdropping on your session or you may have just clicked a menu or some application just decided to get focus.

Try again.

Please, what is 'mouse grabbing'? and "A malicious client" ? and how could they "be eavesdropping on your session" ?  I thought one of the virtues of Linux was not needing antivirus etc, so how could any 'malicious client' be eavesdropping? Also what does "some application just decided to get focus."?  (i did 'try again' without hitch & did try a search here about this without result.) thanks.

I often use the catfish search tool to find files on a 4TB USB drive. However when I open catfish, it often freezes.  I searched the net but couldn't find any report of a known bug, etc.

Anyone else had this problem?
How does one fix it?

It's getting to be an annoying problem (on setup1 in sig.)
Many thanks in advance for any help with this one.

Mike

I'm feeling stupid and helpless. Windows process is to go to cnet, download, double click to install, open, use. I looked in synaptic for Opera browser. Not there. Went to cnet, no Linux version. I am not understanding this. Is it right in front of me and I am not seeing it?

I've just read a thread in software support saying you can burn MP3's to a normal audio CD using xfburn. I've just tried this but got the message -

(filename}.mp3

is not an audio file:

MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder is missing.

You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file.
Probably you need to look at the gst-plugins-* packages
for the necessary plugin

I've looked in synaptic manager but coudn't find anything that looked suitable. What plugins do i need to install?.or am i doing something else wrong? Thanks.

I'm trying to outfit a friend's laptop running LL 3.6, with bluetooth audio. It will require a dongle, as BT is not built in.

I don't see any BT audio in the LL database. At Amazon, only 2 BT audio dongles show up, and the reviews are not encouraging.

Do most BT dongles work with Linux, even if it's not advertised as such?

Thanks.

I have an old Asus laptop x53e with Windows 7 got so slow it was useless.  Finally I googled how to open up the bios.  I knew how but as soon as I press the on button I had to immediately hit the delete button....Happy news, I was able to install  LL 3.6 and WOW!....new life for the old laptop.  It hums along at a pretty good clip now!!!!!!

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! A piece of advice please. I'm dual booting Windows 7 and Linux Lite 3.6. LL's partition has only 30gb, but the more I use LL the more I like it and now I want to increase it's size by taking it from Windows'. I've been googling for this and so far every piece of info I've found  says I have to boot from a live cd/usb and do it from there. I also searched the forum but nothing was even closer to what I want to do. I think I have to boot  into Windows and resize it to free some more space for LL, what's not clear to me is whether it'll be possible to assign this unallocated space to LL. Is that possible? Also, after resizing Windows' partition, can I resize LL's partition from within it? Or do I have to boot from a Live usb and do it from there? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer!

Greetings-
In short, I hated WIN10 so I looked for alternatives. Landed on Linux Lite for 2 laptops and have been generally satisfied. I am reasonably intelligent and am moderately tech savvy. I am NOT an IT professional or code writer. I have been frustrated with some processes in LL that require code written into the DOS prompt equivalent. I even copied and pasted some of the code from this forum and in each and every instance it did not work. I don't know enough to know what I am doing wrong. As much as windows sucks I could almost always accomplish simple tasks like adding a browser or other software. Sorry to complain but I'm 3 days in and have had to re install the OS several times.

Other than that I like it! :-) I'm sure as I use it more I'll begin to "get it". This forum will doubtless be a valuable resource.
Thanks,
1032

Hello,

Free Github accounts, should I create a Github personal or Open Source account ?

Edit -
For now I will leave Github alone.
