Added Klavaro (learn how to type package) BUT not opening up
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 11-21-2017, 03:37 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

Not sure what I'm doing differently...I have added Klavaro to 5 laptop or notebooks successfully a couple months ago, but now when I add it (have tried on two different computers) I can see the package in an EDUCATION tab above in the menu, however it doesn't open up on either computer  :-\

I tried through both synaptic manager going to "install/remove programs" and when it didn't open up I tried via terminal using a sudo command.  Both "appeared" to download the package, but again when I went to it via menu nothing happens when I click on it.

I even updated one of the computers again before downloading it.

Any explanations and suggestions?

Thanks,
Janet

  Superuser permission

I'm trying to uninstall and reinstall Firefox in LL 2.8 using Synaptic Package Manager (SPM). I keep getting an error notice when trying to launch the SPM telling me that I need to make a report and run this terminal command.:-

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

When trying to run that, I'm told I need Superuser permission.  Help!!

Moving LL 3.6 to a new laptop
Posted by: T1125P - 11-19-2017, 09:15 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (11)

Hi all, I was looking now at all the black Friday sales and will be buying a refurbished laptop, with at least USB 3.0 support. Right now I'm  using a Toshiba Netbook running LL 3.6.  When I get the new laptop can I just take out my old SSD and just put it in the new laptop? I really don't want to reinstall and configure my set up again.

Thanks.

Hey,

With the help of Feather designed by [member=5059]whateverthing[/member] I am designing some bootloading splash screen (no, not the ones as xfce splash screen, but the LL feather on yellow background one). I just thought I would share them here. Smile

Feel free to add your content here, if it's relevant of course.

  Amusing performance issue
Posted by: tomg54 - 11-19-2017, 07:14 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Dell Inspiron 1545, per previous post, dumped windows.  2.8 ghz processor, upgraded, 4 Gbs ram.  Win 10 will not support 3d view on google maps.  WTH?  lol. While using 1.9 gigs of memory vs. Lites 1.2.  Sorry, I had to throw that out there. Win 7 and 10 idle at about a gig at startup, lite is about a third of that.

  Lite Vs. Windows
Posted by: tomg54 - 11-19-2017, 07:06 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

3 years ago finally trashed windows 7 after finding Linux Lite 2.  Update, for fun tried win 10, 3 months and done.  Spare time and hdds.  Updated win 10 to the fall creators edition, 2 hours 20 minutes, it rebooted to the same 1703 and asked me if I wanted to update. LOL. That hdd is now reformatted.  I tried.  Thanks to these guys and the developers of this distro. It just works.

  Edimax USB wifi aka 8192cu
Posted by: tomg54 - 11-19-2017, 06:57 AM - Forum: Network - No Replies

Edimax usb mini wifi works fine per, rtl8192cu-fixes, but, upon reboot, I always have to re-insert the usb .  Not a big deal but, curious.  BTW, On the dell 1545 I own it nearly doubles the performance from the native B4312 sta or lp-phy drivers.  On my rarely used Win 7 rig, identical performance.  Thanks. And thanks for this distro, I have tried over 30 in 3 years and other than this minor issue, Lite has not failed me or anyone I have recommended it to.
