Background (may be boring stuff)
This is one of my MS windows habits when it comes to copy files from my digital camera to local disk. When I used windows, I always used to use MS explorer and sort files by attributes - because that way, I was able to sort out new files only - that is the files where the attribute archive are set. And from there, I could easilly copy only new files from memory card to disk, and then unset the archive attributes for all files on SD-card that was copied.
I have found no way of being able to sort the files in same way using Thunar. Assume the archive attribute is a fat/ntfs feature only.

So I think I need help to solve the problem in either of two ways:

1. copy files - but only those files where archive attribute is set.
In MS-dos / windows command line - the command is xcopy /A.

2. Copy files - but only those that is changed after given date.
This also work for me. The "only copy files achive attribute set" solution would be the best one because about every digital camera utilize fat filesystem, and I don't need to look at the files using a file manager to look for the last date after last time I copied files from camera.

3. Same as 2 - but store a timestamp for when the file copy operation occured last time
Don't know if this is possible. I thinking of storing a local file onto the sd card (in the camera). That text file should consist of one line only, and that is a string that contains the date and time. That time stamp should be changed every time the file copy is done.
And - for every file copy operation, only the files that has a timestamp that is newer than the time stored in text file should be copied.

I have installed VM Win XP successfully, but it wants to go online to validate the product code I entered.

Simple question: is this possible?

I am the target audience for LL, with no interest in coding etc. Following is a sample of FAQ on Virtualbox site (they should try this out on people, face to face! Though maybe it's only aimed at those in the know). 

"Q:I have set up a VM with NAT networking, but it can't access internet while my Host system can.
A: NAT only translates TCP or UDP. Additionally it handles a subset of ICMP necessary for ping. One of the common reasons is that your task requires another IP protocol. Some VPN protocols use GRE which is not translated.

Another common issues is that the DNS relay within the VirtualBox VMM only forwards all DNS queries to the first configured DNS server known to the host and does not search the entire DNS server list. If this DNS server is offline the hot will fail-over to the second server on the DNS list, etc., but the guest will effectively loose DNS." .... it gets worse after this ....

I will probably stay with Win7 pc for my cad work.

has anyone had this problem? - I have correctly set Backup to Scheduling>Automatic on>daily,  but it doesn't!

I leave the external backup SD card in all the time,
if i leave the backup window open (after a manual backup) it reads "last backup today" every day thereafter, until I close and re-open it then it will read "last backup 5 days ago" or whenever,
manual backups go perfectly, so the relevant location etc. settings are fine

The only (unlikely?) thing I can think of is that the pc is not running overnight and the system attempts a backup during sleep time. Unlikely, because I don't see any preferred time option.

It's not a life and death problem, just a minor irritation in the OS that I otherwise love.

Just to report probably the worst case scenario. Am in a bit of a daze at the moment ...
Please don't anyone remind me that I should have backed-up the data before using gparted - I know - I usually do but didn't this time ...

I've just been extending a data partition on an SSD using gparted.
The SSD, plugged in as USB drive, was accidentally moved during the operation, temporarily disconnected, and gparted ceased completing the operation.

Its a 1TB drive: I was extending a 700GB ext4 partition (with 400GB data written on it) to absorb the remaining 230GB of unallocated space.

How do I recover the data? I hope it's not lost as it's not backed up!
Gparted is showing nothing stored on the SSD - the undo operation didn't work.


Quite frankly, I'm hoping for a miracle to recover the data ...

My elderly Fujitsu ESPRIMO-Mobile-V6555 with Windows XP has turned out to be fussy about which Linux distros to run. Finally got going with Linux Lite. I am new to Linux but a long term Windows user and felt quite comfortable with the live version of Linux Lite, so thank you to all involved.

I installed with Linux Lite alongside Windows XP into which it will still boot. However Linux Lite failed to boot but after experiments I discovered that it would boot in "Recovery mode". When the recovery boot finished I appeared to have a full installation in that I have could add further applications and make use of  Wine with some basic Windows utilities, also Dropbox setup very easily.

Very pleased with the way things are going but would welcome suggestions as to what I should do to enable a standard boot.

I noticed over at DistroWatch that the blurb on LL does not make clear that it is a full-featured out-of-the-box desktop experience. When evangelizing, I have found that some confusion over this exists because of the distro's name, and I often explain that the "Lite" refers to the ability to work well on old or under-powered equipment, and also describes the easy learning curve when emigrating from Windows, but is not a reflection on the capabilities or default configuration of the system. Perhaps adding "full-featured" to the blurb would help clarify this for some seekers who are unaware.

Hi, i'm Damiano and i'm passed from Manjaro to Linux Lite because the first one is too 'heaviest' for my low Pc configuration. So i decided to try this, a distro that i've seen before.

Hi, i downloaded and installed Driver Install Tool from Brother official website: the printer is ok, but the scanner doesn't go.
I also tried to add the line ATTR... to libsane.rules but nothing.
Someone could help me?
