I can't figure out how to switch my mouse to be left-handed. I hurt my right shoulder and really need to use my left hand. I have tried several times in Settings but it doesn't seem to "take."

Hi,

Running Linuxlite since two days. Works fine except SCP. SSH works, but when transmitting files to the LinuxLite host with SCP I only get a welcome message.

Syntax: scp file user@host:~
Output: Welcome to Linux Lite 4.0 ola
..nothing ends up on the other side.

I googled and found a lot pointing at the welcome banner interfering with scp, but no luck with getting rid of the banner (or the problem). SCP is quite common and trivial so I'm surprised that it's not working on a basic setup.

So I've just installed a fresh new Linux Lite 4  ;D
Will it be wise to mount (or just move) home to the old one from 3.8 in another partition?

I'm hoping someone can help me out.  One of my youth in South Africa is using a donated Dell Inspiron 1545 on which I loaded LL 3.8.  It has been working well with no issues until Tuesday of last week.

When he turned it on and went to check the battery the mouse would not move (I have the icon on the bottom task bar which shows the battery power level so he was trying to get there).

Now the kicker is that he's in South Africa and I'm here in Canada.  I have googled to see if I can find anything easy to rectify this issue, but nothing comes up. Apparently the Dell 1545 does not have any hot keys or switches that enable or disable the mouse pad.

I do have a notebook here running LL 3.8 that I have been fiddling with to see what I might be able to find out and have tried the steps below.

I found out that by pressing "Alt + F1" I can get to the menu and use the arrow keys to get to various applications.  My thoughts were to try these various options using the above (Alt + F1 and cursors):
1) go to Applications>Settings>Mouse & Touchpad then see if it was enabled or disabled
OR
2) go to Application>System>Systemback then restore to the most recent restore point and see if the mousepad worked.
OR
3) turn on the computer and make sure it SHUT DOWN PROPERLY then boot it up again and see if the mouse pad/cursor worked. I go through the same process as above: Applications>Logout (shows logout, restart and shutdown screen).

HOWEVER - Once I get to the end of any of these paths e.g. into mouse & touch pad or system back I can no longer get anywhere with the cursors...so I am stuck again.

Any ideas?

Right now I am seeing if he can source an external USB mouse with which we can try the above possible fixes.

Poor performance with this dongle,  Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS] on lite 4.0.  On Lite 2.0 through 3.8, after 
git clone https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes.git  it worked flawlessy, still does on 16.04.  On lite 4 it's a no go.  It works, but maxes out around 10mb.  iwconfig gives me this.Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.412 GHz  Access Point: 00:1D1:33:F8:90 Bit Rate=7.2 Mb/s  Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry short limit:7  RTS thr=2347 B  Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=64/70  Signal level=-46 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:3164  Missed beacon:0

Which it is or I wouldn't be posting. I have updated with sudo-apt get update, but I don't understand why the Lite Updater gives this report.
It is a fresh install of Lite 4.0 on a laptop with Wifi which works for everything else

Hello boys and girls.Hope i am in the correct place for this.If not please move it  OR  Delete it.
I use the ll 3.8 32bit with a kernel  4.4.0.128I run in this old pc only just a ham-radio programs.
For the last week or so,when i boot the pc some of the programs are not talking to each other.And i have told  something wrong (maybe) with the kernel.Any one know  what is the  best (stable) kernel  for the  ll 3.8  and what is the command  to install it.Many thanks..arxontas ve3clg

I still have 3.8 on a seperate hdd.  Upgraded through the whole 3 series.  Fantastic.  Currently experimenting with 4.0 on a small SSD. Jerry helped me with the pulse audio EQ.  Other than that temporary snag, fantastic.  For my use and my usual programs, as expected, runs like a top.  9 year old Dell laptop.  Idles at about 400mb ram, boots in under 15 seconds. Thanks.

Firstly !!  A great big thank you to all the people who give freely their time and expertise.  Not sure if I am missing the connection.  My problem is. Having installed many different versions of Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Suse  etc  and still ending up at the same place.  It is really great to have plenty of U Tube Linux tutorials  plus the number of Linux books to use as study guides. However I have not been able to pickup one book or watch one utube video  where the tutorial be it book or video coincides with the software i have installed on my pc..  Is there anyway to find out  what version of software these educators are using so that it will be possible to follow the entire offered material step by step ..  Any advise or help will be greatly appreciated  Thanks in advance

Not really a problem, I think the audio in LL 4.0 is superb! What I'm wondering is, why is it so good? I have used other Linux/BSD systems where the audio is rather poor. Why? what is LL doing that the others are not?
