Not sure that I am writting on right place.
First I am new in linux, maybe I install aplications on wrong way...
I have often disapear aplications from linux 4.2beta.
Simple like they was never installed on my lite before, just empty icon.
For example playonlinux, viber, etcher...
I yust install them again and they work for some time again until disapear.
Is this problem with beta lite, or I install them on wrong way?

Hi,
Sorry if this has already been asked, not sure how to phrase it in search; but I'm kinda OCD about design and the U in 'Menu' text is WAY too close to the first quick launch icon. I was wondering how I could possibly edit the margin on that button ( that being the 'start' menu ).
I just want it to have more space. please?
I apologize If I've wasted anyone's time, just thought this would be the best place to ask.
Loving this distro ( came fro elementary, the king of bugs ) so far. very eloquent build!
thanks lads and lasses,
Ashley!

Well MS has managed to mess up the fall update for Windows 10, and they actually have yet to fix it, which is not a surprise to some insiders who actually warned against the new update implementation as suffering from mismatched protocols in some patches, since on the inside in their attempt to use a new sync script and tool they have caused the update to un-sync and delete the existing user documents folder. The great and laughable thing is, it is simply not repairable as it is, which means the entire update must be redone, and of course anyone who has lost work cannot run their computers at all if they hope to recover their files undamaged. The rumor is: and I also think it is the case, that some recent OS security implementations are the cause and will have to be rolled back first.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...te-history
Lucky you can use your Linux system to get your MS files back.
https://www.howtoforge.com/recover-delet...h-foremost
And you can find it in synaptic.
So if your Windows 10 machine has to take a timeout, just let it pout in a corner for now, and fire up a nice new Linux OS.

| Still can't figure out the permissions problem for copying to second disk |

Linux Lite has been mostly great, and I have been showing it to people, who tend to be impressed. One thing, however, is really NOT impressive, and for most people it's a deal breaker - this is the problems I have when I want to copy files from (for example) my flash drive to (for example) my second internal disk. I cannot do this with drag and drop, period. However, I can COPY the files on the flash drive and then paste them into the folder on the internal drive. What in the world is the problem here? According to the permissions, I can do anything I want to all of these files and folders, so why won't the drag-and-drop interface let me?
When I show LL to friends, this part is a real problem, because we're often copying mp3s or pictures over. It's really not impressive when it won't let me do this and I have to do a kludgy workaround to make it happen. Plus, since (IMO) this shouldn't be happening, it's irritating. And unfortunately, it's what people tend to remember about the OS. "Oh, yeah, that was the one that couldn't copy files."
I don't have any trouble copying files within my system disk, only with my other internal disk. It's FAT32, if that helps.

| Creating a desktop laucher for Wine programs |

I recently installed the Wine program, which allows some Windows programs to run under Linux.
So far this has been very successful, and much better that I had expected. So good in fact, that I’ve started in earnest to get my main PC off of Windows (7), and have begun to transfer the programs that I want to keep.
However, there are a couple of issues regarding the creation of a desktop launcher for each Wine program. The good news is that the main problem is resolvable, in what appears to be an undocumented feature, which perhaps should be part of the GUI.
When you right click on the desktop, you are presented with a menu, that includes Create Launcher…
Most of these are easy enough to enter, except for two issues.
The first is relatively minor. Because the Wine mechanism relies on Windows executables that are hidden under /home/username/.wine they cannot be seen by the Create Launcher GUI. This can be overcome by a copy and paste operation from another window (Menu, Other, Browse C: Drive), which is available after you’ve installed Wine.
The second is a bit more problematic if you want to use a custom user created icon, rather than those already on the system.
Using a standard system icon is fine, but if you want it to also look the same as it did on the Windows system, you need to create the one that is normally embedded in the Windows .exe file.
See “Creating program icon” below.
The problem is that when you try and enter the link to your newly created program icon, there is apparently no way to do so, since a click on “No Icon” in the Icon: section will just bring up the existing system icons.
You have to use what appears to be an undocumented feature:
First, after clicking “No Icon” you select “all icons” in the select icons from: section.
Then if you press the down cursor you get a folder/file browser, with which you can navigate and select your created icon.
Perhaps in a future release the GUI could include select user defined.
Creating program icon
This can be easily done, by extracting it, and converting it to be compatible for use under linux, using the following terminal procedures:
There are no doubt better ways but at least the following works.
1) Extract the .ico with
Code: wrestool -o . x WindowsExecutableFile.exe
Which will extract ALL .ico .cur and .bmp files into the current folder. You can be more specific by using more control switches. Normally the one you want is a 32x32 .ico image.
Note: wrestool is part of icoutils, and might need installing with
Code: sudo apt-get install icoutils
2) Convert the icon with
Code: convert ExtractedIcon.ico LinuxIcon.png
Which by default, if you use a 32x32 input you’ll get a 32x32 output in .png format, but again you can be more specific by using more control switches.
I found it easiest to use a /home/UserName/Temp folder for the terminal operations, and to store the .png icon in homeUserName/Icons

Just wanted to say that I have a network printer/scanner HP Deskjet 4530 [or something] hosted under the same router that I am plugged into and the printer worked right off the bat - same goes for scanning function - without even any configuring or other mingling around on my part. Looks very well done aspect of the system and a merit of modern Ubuntu.

It should be allowed to set the touchpad to automatically turn down when another active mouse device is on and turn up when no other mouse device is connected.
Second, the custom touchpad settings should apply also on the early stage of the on-boot logging screen, because for example in my case, I have switched the tap-clicks option off, while in the logging screen, all the settings seem turn default, which makes the touchpad to interfere with the text - that is, the password - being written due to the presence of taps function. Which is bad.

The disks application tells me that a 250GB SSD drive that I have, has 100 bad sectors, apart from which being in an "OK" state. When I have particularly checked for bad sectors, attempted to check file system or repair file system - booting from a LiveUSB - it told me 100% is good. Quirk?
