Linux Lite 3.8 - No Sound - Speakers ok when headphones selected, but switches b

Linux Lite 3.8 - No Sound - Speakers work when the Headphones port is selected, but linux then switches back randomly to the Line Out Port (both show as unplugged).

I have stopped the Pulseaudio daemon.

What can I do to stop linux from switching back the Line Out port?
Or, what can I do to make the sound work without "creative solutions"?

The newest Whiskermenu 2.3.0 has a great new feature that allows you to add additional buttons to the bottom (See screenshot). I have been testing it.

Will keep you posted of any significant developments.

It's just been reported in several places (including Distrowatch) that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS may now offer 10 years of support. What does this mean for the 4x series of Linux Lite, or, for that matter, Linux Mint 19, and quite a few others based upon this version of Ubuntu? Sorry if I am out of place to ask this here.

According to a forum, the consensus is that it won't mean anything, really, after all...Just for home servers, possibly, or for paid long-term support. SO I guess this was a bit misleading. MY APOLOGIES.

Text cursor jumps to other place at times

I got a irritating problem. When typing my cursor jumps for no reason at all to another place in the text sometimes. This is making a mess of what i am typing. I thought it was a problem wih=th previous laptop but the new one has the same. It doesnt do it all the time. Anyone any idea were to look for an answer to the problem?

Hi again. I have an old webcam which works great while using guvcview.
I have installed the Ivideon server and while trying to add the camera it doesn't find it.
I have read that I need to chown /dev/video0 to the same user:group as the one running Ivideon server.

lsusb gives me:
Bus 002 Device 082: ID 041e:403c Creative Technology, Ltd Webcam Live! Ultra

How do I accomplish this?

Stuck in Initramfs

I am a new user of Linux Lite [4.0]. I used it around 4 months. My cpu is AMD A4. Suddenly its not login and stuck in initramfs after displaying below msg.

Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls/dev)
ALERT! UUID=a081b06c-3343-4e6e-9e89-b500ff509502 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.27.2 (Ubuntu1:1.27.2-2ubuntu3) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

Where in the file system is the Network Controller driver stored?

Where, in the LL3 file system, is the driver for the Network Controller stored?
Also, what kind of name is it likely to be called?

Using terminal, I get this output when identifying the WiFi card:

About CPU over heating

Sometimes, especially in older machines, the CPU temperature may rise above it's normal threshold.
This is usually not an issue with new CPUs, since they don't consume power so much.

But since we are talking about older computers, over heating may become an issue and I write this topic
about how to deal with it.

First of all, old CPU units tend to consume much power, which leads to heating. there is no way out of the fact.
This is the reason why desktop computers usually have huge cooling units - of various kinds, which themselves
produce again more heat - there is no way out of this thermodynamic fact. The extra heat must go somewhere.
Desktops just "blow away" the heat into room air, which is usually always much cooler.

But how about older laptops. They don't have efficient cooling systems and sometimes the CPU temperature
just hits it's maxium. There are many ways to deal with this situation though. I try to explain some of them here.
The first one is kernel-dependent, meaning that you cannot use it if the running kernel does not support it.
To find out, open the console and command:

sudo grep MCE /boot/config-$(uname -r)

If the output has a line like: "CONFIG_X86_MCE=y", then you can use the CPU Machine Exception Banks for
this purpose. Just make sure the service has been enabled by commanding:

systemctl status mcelog

If it does not run or has not been installed, then install mcelog, enable and start it:

systemctl enable mcelog; sleep 5; systemctl start mcelog

That should do it. Now the kernel is able to communicate with the mce-process, and warn if the temperature
is too high. How to configure the mcelog daemon? Ask! MCElog does much more than just reports about
temperatures, so this may not be the best possible solution to this particular problem.

There are many other ways to deal with this issue, for example using the desktop XFCE sensors plugin, which
brings the CPU core temperatures to the XFCE desktop.

And you may always just read the temperature from /sys: (and maybe use it in cron or by other means)

Divide that by 1000 and you have approximately the core0 temperature in Celsius, metric units (The Correct ones Smile

Well, I thought I would write more about this topic, but I'll write about "thermald", "lm_sensors" and "SMART" in
other topics if you guys think it might be interesting
