Aesthetic feel of the LinuxLite is superb
Posted by: MS - 11-01-2018, 02:55 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

Just wanted to say the aesthetic integrity and design of the LinuxLite is superb and this is one of the things which got me lured into using Linux, but not simply the Linux, as in particular the LinuxLite. I can hardly name any distro which I would turn to in case Jerry decided to be a professional golfist instead of a software engineer involved with Linux. Maybe I would give the basic Debian a shot, maybe.

  html interface for invetsment tools
Posted by: trinidad - 11-01-2018, 02:44 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - No Replies

Forgot to tweak LL boot in boxes, but it does load so be patient. XFCE launcher is certainly a breeze to work with compared to gnome3. Can launch the script completely with the interface already loaded in firefox. This is just a demo of what can be done with an html interface to an API script. You can tell that gnuplot is very fast for this sort of thing by how long it takes the script to run and download and plot (6graphs) and load the interface (maybe 10 seconds to complete). Anyway continuing with the project. Have an html table template now for loading the batch_quotes with a nicer look and will implement it soon.

  Preinstalled software on LiteSoftware hub
Posted by: MS - 11-01-2018, 11:37 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

I think the preinstalled software should be present in the LiteSoftware, for the sake of convenience.

For example, I would immediately purge Firefox and Thunderbird, as well as the VLC. For their place, I tend to install respectively Chromium, nothing and MPV media player, although for the last instance, this may unnecessarily be an exact replacement.

For the GIMP, I perfectly see why it is a default choice, though once I remember trying to change the format of an image, I used Pinta, since GIMP was giving me some trouble. Either way, any preinstalled software featured in the LiteSoftware would seem fair and clear.

Perhaps Audacious could also be the thing as an alternative to the Clementine, albeit I can see in what way many instances of the samewise service make for a confusion?

I am glad you added Redshift, I am using it constantly since my switching to Linux, which I find much more eyesight friendly compared to the Windows10 nightview mode, that I found much oppressive somehow.

Is the Baobab - known also as the disk usage analyser - present in the default system setup? Simplescreenrecorder is popular, to mention stuff further.

Icons bugging out in language specific shift
Posted by: MS - 11-01-2018, 11:02 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (2)

When I change the names of menus and icons to language specific - other than contemporary Roman - the desktop icons disappear. When I return to English and log back, they appear again. I believe this is a bug.

  CVE-2018-14665 : Xorg X Server Vulnerabilities
Posted by: Moltke - 11-01-2018, 03:32 AM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (1)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a ice life! Smile

Just found this article https://www.securepatterns.com/2018/10/c...erver.html while googling. I don't mean to raise any alarms whatsoever, just wondering whether this has been addressed...do we even have to worry about this issue?

From the article:

"X.org X Server application is vulnerable to privilege escalation issue. X.org X Server  application allows lower privileged user to create or overwrite file anywhere on system , including files owned by privileged users (ex. /etc/shadow).

The attacker needs to have active console session to exploit this issue."

  Apps Disappear When Minimized
Posted by: mdiemer - 10-31-2018, 08:47 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Something I've wondered about for awhile. Doing the recent upgrade to 4.2 reminded me: While I was running the required update, I played a game of solitaire. After awhile I minimized it so I could see the update progress. Then, I could not figure out how to get the card game back. Yes, I should have used the second desktop, but as usual I forgot. I know there has to be a way to retrieve things that appear to be lost after minimizing, but I can't figure out what it is. This has happened a number of times and has been rather frustrating, so I would love to solve it.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello,

here is the Free download link for the book - The Hobbyists Guide to RTL-SDR.

https://www.surviveuk.com/wp-content/upl...Laufer.pdf

The book looks interesting, the driver install doesn't cover Linux, the guide for this is here -
