My laptop is dual boot, windows 10 and LL 4.2. Since yesterday i noticed that my download speed on LL is slow, i have a 200 mbit connection and on LL i get a max of 30-40 mbit/sec download, the upload is good, about 250 mbit/sec. When i boot into windows i dont have that problem, download there is 205 mbit and upload 250 mbit.

This has not always been like this, before i had normal download speed on LL. I can't figure out what is causing this problem.

Just booted LL from usb stick and tested download speed. It was fine, 205 Mbit/sec

Fixed by reinstalling LL4.2. Marked as solved

I would like to install LL on my main home pc but would like to know if anybody else here has a similar setup.
I looked in your hardware database but did not see the hardware there.

How is the compatibility for this?

CPU - 2700x
Video - Vega 64
Motherboard - AMD x470 chipset
SSD - 2x M.2 SSD PCIe Drives

I mainly use this for video editing and light gaming.

I have a 60TB server at home that I can only access via windows computers.

Any time I try and access it with a linux pc it says "Failed to Open File System".

I'm guessing because it is using the windows ReFS system.

Any ideas how to access this via linux?

I installed linuxlite on a Gateway Core 2 1.6Ghz machine this afteroon. During installation, I accepted the default user name "linuxlite" and noticed a message that the install was as "superuser." The install went smoothly and I am able to login as user linuxlite with the password I supplied. However, any attempt to install software (e.g., Chromium) asks for a password and the password that I used for install is not accepted. Any attempt to invoke sudo in a terminal window also fails to accept the password.

One possibly related note: The first thing I tried after install was to type a note in text editor. The keyboard translation was all screwed up (e.g., 'p' produced '*'). I Googled and found the Shift+fn+Scroll numlock solution which includes going to Control Panel / Keyboard and unchecking the "Restore numlock state on start up" box. Thinking that this might possibly have something to do with the sudo password problem, I tried sudo with a normal keyboard password and sudo with the numlock password and neither works. Yet, I can still reboot the machine and sign in successfully as user linuxlite and the same password I supplied during installation.

I would hate to have to do the install all over again but won't be able to use LinuxLite without being able to install needed software and being able to use sudo in a terminal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Kapdani

I have installed LinuxLite 4.2 onto a USB flash drive from a DVD containing the .iso. I tried to be very careful but something went badly wrong.

Here are the symptoms I have now:

  • Booting from the HD with no USB device results in the prompt: grub rescue>
  • Booting from the USB fails. I just see eternally a non responsive black screen with an underscore cursor at the top.
  • Booting from the HD with a the USB device displays a menu where I can choose to boot Linux Lite or Windows 10. They both will boot successfully.
Any insights or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am thinking of getting the Boot Repair Tool and hacking with that but I am kind of in the dark here.

TIA, ~Randy

The HD doesn't automatically mount as it used to with previous version and also requires a password to open. Maybe for some reason (Apparently this is a 'root' enabled drive, at least when I click on Properties from the Drives icon in Thunar.

In GPart it says that this HD is flagged as "boot'. Does this means the bootup files are on this drive? If so, that is a mistake during installation. But if I can at least have it open properly, that would be fine.

Question: how to get it to load every time and get rid of the password prompt so that I can keep and save bookmarks?

I am using Linux Lite 3.2. The system keeps on hanging very often When I tries to access the Samba Folders for any read or write activity. I am using  3.20 version. How do I rectify this error.
