Regarding the thread linked HERE, I question mild dispute of competition as being "impolite" to the Linux Lite, on a Linux Lite forum, if kept tidy. Environmental awareness is crucial. Linux Lite is an exemplary of a certain category of Linux distributions. There are other distributions with similar principles as well. What distributions do you know of that aim for elegance, simplicity and user friendliness, maximizing the performance?

![[Image: EYr1v4Hl.png]](http://imgur.com/EYr1v4Hl.png)
![[Image: Si60kxgl.png]](http://imgur.com/Si60kxgl.png)
![[Image: eYltW4sl.png]](http://imgur.com/eYltW4sl.png)
{
![[Image: Dhc48wEl.png]](http://imgur.com/Dhc48wEl.png)

![[Image: maxresdefault.jpg]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/_kEocWwbfQc/maxresdefault.jpg)
Моды для игры устанавливать в папку ~/PortWINE/PortWoT/drive_c/Games/World_of_Tanks/mods и res_mods
![[Image: S7XxGBPl.png]](http://imgur.com/S7XxGBPl.png)
![[Image: wHOv36Ql.png]](http://imgur.com/wHOv36Ql.png)
Заходим в дирректорию с игрой в папку res- ~/PortWINE/PortWoT/drive_c/Games/World_of_Tanks/res/
![[Image: 0uMpeQ4l.png]](http://imgur.com/0uMpeQ4l.png)
Я эту папку просто переименовал в cefx(на всякий случай, вдруг сломаю что нибудь / обошлось, но Вы сделайте копию на всякий случай)
![[Image: fZkisa7l.png]](http://imgur.com/fZkisa7l.png)

How do I make sure synaptic is up to date?

My usual poor search terms aren't helping me here. I'm on distro 3.4
I'm using the LMMS DAW & been informed on their forum that the 1.1.3 version I'm running is 4 yrs old & I should remove it & upgrade to the latest & more stable version 1.2. Looking in synaptic manager 1.1.3 is still showing.
I also want to install WINE whose web page shows the latest version is 4.0.1 but synaptic shows 1:1.8.0 - Oubuntu 1 - ubi . Is this the latest version?
What do I need to do to ensure synaptic is up to date &/or install the above latest version programs ? It's been a while since I installed LL so I'm also rusty on command line stuff.

Hello,
Linux Lite is wonderful! Makes my Lenovo Thinkpad R61 run fast; is well behaved; doesn't need me to fine tune anything.Formerly used Mint and various other Ubuntu versions. Happy, but there were always compromises.
Main purpose of the R61 is to be my printing station - Gimp to TurboPrint. It was so easy to set up. It just WORKED! (I design on Mac mostly - but love Linux for various things. For a number of years used Linux solely for my design.)
Biggest surprise: No longer having ANY issues with my printer. Nothing glitches. Printer doesn't hesitate to grab small sheets now (It hated 4x6 with a passion for years!). No spitting out partially printed large pages of code occasionally either (1 out of 10 11x14 prints would end up ruined). (I now see messages from Turboprint that I NEVER saw in any other distro)
Good heavens - this is remarkable! THANK YOU to all who created this!
Other uses for this laptop: writing, email, checking my shop, Inkscape, and converting vectors to JPEGs in Gimp.
QUESTION: I need a backup laptop (other one died recently) What models of laptop might fit this?
- Backup print station to the R61.
- Type my health journal* daily (not cloud - saved on disk) .
- Very small and light - maybe like a netbook size? - so I can throw it in my tote bag and go ... and so I can journal late at night without hauling out the heavier laptops.
- Can be old - the R61 is underpowered to most folks but perfectly capable for my needs.
- Lower the budget the better too
- If the screen was nice that would be a bonus - but I won't hold my breath.
- Long battery life (I'm ok with needing to buy a battery)
*Light and small may help me avoid procrastinating journaling because it's "too heavy and I'm too tired". :-) I have a number of rare issues - and I'm supposed to journal - I want to journal - but often times I don't.
Thank you in advance.

[solved] ffmpeg on multiple .aac files in directory using find

Hi.
I have a folder with multiple .aac audio files. I plan to use them in a car stereo that is very picky on accepting files.
So I found out using ffmpeg to clean out any unused metadata and possible other non-auditible information using this command:
ffmpeg -i 'input.aac' -vn -c:a copy 'output.aac'
I want to be able to do this for several files at once. According to this thread in unix.stackexchange forum, it should be easilly done by using the find command.
However - I have tried several variation of the command (using the example from unix.stackexchange forum), but without any success (ffmpeg claim error about file existing). This is the commands I have tried so far:
Code: find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -vn -c:a copy 2_{}
find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -vn -c:a copy 2_{} \;
find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -vn -c:a copy NEW{} \;
find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -vn -c:a copy NEW{}\;
find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i {} -vn -c:a copy NEW{} \;
find . -name "*.aac" -exec ffmpeg -i '{}' -vn -c:a copy 'NEW{}'\;
I usually got an error message like this (for every file):
NEW./input-file-name.aac: No such file or directory
I cannot 'see' the command that ffmpeg actually receive, so I cannot tell if there is an obviously error.

Single-core Intel Atom CPU: best adapted lightweight distros for this?

My Samsung netbook (single-core dual-threaded CPU ) listed in my signature below, runs too slowly with 64-bit LL 3 & 4 series to make this worthwhile. However, it's the same story with other 64-bit OSes, like Manjaro-xfce which is currently installed on it. Does anyone have any ideas on what distros would run smoothly with a single core Intel Atom CPU, like the one I have? Combing the internet, I have seen Puppy Linux suggested, while others recommend a 32-bit xfce desktop system, even though it has a 64-bit architecture.
I was wondering what your thoughts were on this, here at the LL forum ...

Just installed Linux Lite as a dual boot on it's own SSD. I have three monitors. The two additional monitors are displayed through USB to VGA adapters (EVGA UV+16). I can get them configured and working properly, but every time I reboot I lose the settings and start with only one monitor.
I am a Linux NEWB. Need help - THANKS!

Vuescan cannot find old scanner - HP ScanJet 3400C

Hi.
The scanner is not accessible from Vuescan (nor simple scan - at least before installing xsane)
I have used Vuescan on the same computer successfully with other scanners: - Epson Stylus DX4250 (USB / no additional driver installed)
- Epsson expression home XP-432 (USB / no additional driver installed)
- Epson Perfection 4490 Photo (USB / Driver from 2015 installed)
- HP Officejet Pro 8610 (USB / no additional driver installed)
I have installed xsane, and I can access the HP ScanJet 3400C by using xsane. However I don't get the resolution and options that I expect by using Vuescan (max 600 dpi despite scanner support 1200 dpi + cannot save raw file etc... )
After installing xsane, the scanner also got accessible via simple scan. Before installing xsane I couldn't access the scanner by simple scan.
In short - this is what I have done trying to get the scanner work with Vuescan:- Ran lsusb -v to make sure that the OS can see the device.
- Included the scanner in the 40-libsane.rules -file
- Looking in LQ list of hardware. Found it there and a post from 2005 suggest it works with xsane.
- Installed xsane (xsane can communicate to the scanner but Vuescan cannot)
- Searched for driver for the scanner - no one (if any) found when searched online.
- Tried to run Vuescan as root (just to exclude the possibility that the 40-libsane.rules somehow fails to allow the program to access the scanner w/o administrative privilegies)
lsusb -v for the scanner

I would like to point out some icons available for the desktop taskbar are of various sizes, therefore messing up the aesthetics of the utility. Secondary of importance if to mind only functional appeal, nonetheless, in the end, coherent overall image is also certain sign of proper polish. I do understand, though, that lack of any fixed standard in the Linux world does not help to improve the matter.
