Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life and a wondeful 2020!
Today I created a LL 3.8 Live USB with persistence enabled using rufus, I've done this with other distros and they work just fine. But when presented with the boot screen and hit Start Linux Lite nothing happens and the countdown restarts. Pressing tab to configure boot parameters I removed quiet so I could see any error which I did see
/casper/vmlinuz ... invalid parameter: No such file or directory. This is the contents fo the isolinux.cfg

today i was just surfing google and wondered to my self, just for fun, if my desktop PC's are either UEFI or BIOS , found this to copy and paste int toe terminal , without the quotes
" /sys/firmware/efi "
if a desktop PC is NOT UEFI , it will say something like " bash: /sys/firmware/efi: No such file or directory" , which would mean that both of my desktop PC's are bios.
am i right ?. just asking to make sure, i know how to get into and look another way , just wanted a quicker way to tell, ha ha . i like playing with the linux terminal ......

First time installing Linux Lite alongside Windows 10. Everything goes well until I reboot then it boots directly Windows 10. I have disabled SecureBoot and changed boot to allow both legacy and UEFI. When I installed Linux Lite, I picked /dev/sda1 as the boot device. I switched Windows Boot Manager to the bottom of the options to choose boot from but that didn't work. I don't see an 'ubuntu' option when I sue bcdedit. I tried EasyBCD 2.4 to try and repair my boot but it seems that it's a commercial product now. I'm stuck. Can you help me move a little? Cheers
Hello,
I am working on a word file, only text (no tables, no pics), unilingual (english), of 75 pages that includes 300 footnotes.
On Win7 (still alive and kicking) installed on a laptop with just 4 Go RAM, it functions smoothly. At my university library, on a machine which has win 10 and 8 Go of RAM, it would slow down and get stuck for a few seconds during automatic saving, and on Libre office on LL, it took about 60 secunds to open the file to start with (does not happen on either win7 or win10 as used with the machines described above).
Any suggestion for the future and how to be able to get rid of Win7 ?
Hello, I'm a beginner with linux lite I have a question, what program except vlc can you use to transfer media in the home network from a laptop to tv through a tuner
Hello, I'm a new Linux Lite user I have a question and certainly not the last one I would like to delete skype login every time the system starts up how to turn it off? Regards
Recently I noticed that my boot time went from 1:17 to 2:25 for no reason since I didn't change anything except upgrading Linux Lite.

Last time I checked, Dec. 15, 2019, it wasn't slowing down my boot-up time.

motd-news.service has its use for people running servers. Read
https://www.ostechnix.com/how-to-disable...tu-server/
and
https://ma.ttias.be/what-exactly-being-s...untu-motd/
to learn more about it and some related privacy issues but i won't get into that. These links explain a simple step to disable motd-news.service in its config file. I'd rather have you read it than me explaining it
so you decide what's best for you.Since I run an old single-core machine, I want to give it every bit of help to make it start as fast as it can! That's why I chose Linux Lite in the first place.
After modifying the related config file, my boot time is now back to what it was as you can see in my screenshots above.
PS: needless to say, the boot time gain on a SSD will be less than on a HDD.
Hi, been away for awhile, now have need for some help again.
My 8400GS card went bad recently. As a result, I am using for now the original onboard graphics for this 10 yr old Gateway GT5656 desktop. The "card" is GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. I have been experimenting with 32 bit linux systems, trying to find one that will work with this old system.
Originally, the computer was Vista 32 bit. It is 64bit capable, and I did have it 64 bit until the add-in card died. My logic is that since the computer was kind of designed for 32 bit, if I use the onboard graphics, 32 bit may work better.
On two other Linux systems (Zorin Lite and LXLE), I occasionally have display freezes, necessitating a reboot. I tried to install the NVIDIA drivers 304.xxx, but could not, on those systems. I figure they are too "new." So I installed Linux Lite 3.0, thinking an older system might allow me to install the drivers. It did, I have the 304 driver working now on Lite 3.0.
So, if I try Lite 4.0, would I run the risk of the Nvidia drivers not working, because the system/kernel is too new? (Why not just get a new add-in card? I'm trying to avoid putting money into this old beast, if possible). Also, what is your opinion re: Nouveau vs. Nvidia drivers, in a situation like this? Which are likely to work better?
Thanks,
Mike
I tried to download the latest updates and got this error msg.

Hello!
I have used LibreOffice for some time but I don't like it. I used WPS Office it looks modern & very similar to MS Office which I'm comfortable with. So I want to install WPS Office, make it default for opening office files (doc, xls, ppt) & uninstall LibreOffice. Is it okay to delete LibreOffice?
Thanks for your help!
