How do I reverse these iptables commands?
Posted by: torreydale - 05-07-2020, 11:54 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

I am learning about Splunk in my spare time, and a lab called for "Data Onboarding: IPtables Logs."  The goal was to get more data into Splunk by using the following commands to generate syslog data.  The commands are:

iptables -I INPUT 1 -j LOG
iptables -I FORWARD 1 -j LOG
iptables -I OUTPUT 1 -j LOG

I was following along the lab, and when I finished the lab, I didn't think anything of the changes I made.  I hadn't touched my Splunk environment for several days, and then today I noticed I was getting license warnings because my Splunk setup was going over the daily data limit for my free license.  I assume it has something to do with the above commands.  Does anyone know how to reverse the above commands?  I don't know much about iptables.  My educated guess was to type in the following and restart Splunk.

iptables -D INPUT 1
iptables -D FORWARD 1
iptables -D OUTPUT 1

I don't know if what I entered above is the proper way to reverse the commands or not.

L2TP VPN setup to a Cisco MX100 Meraki
Posted by: CODplayer - 05-06-2020, 07:05 AM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and also Linux is newish to me, I have used a few time back in the days but now I have pulled the trigger and have converted my full time laptop to run Linux.
So there is a lot for me to learn. I have tried to run a search from the search bar so if I have happened to missed it please don't roast me that badly.

Anyway enough of my boring stuff, I was wondering if anyone here have any issues on setting up L2TP VPN connection?
I am runing LL4.8 with:
network-manager-l2tp
network-manager-l2tp-gnome

So far this is have managed to setup an L2TP profile on the network VPN connection.

I have put in the usual settings:
Gateway (Tried both hostname and IP address),
add in the Username and Password,
I have confirmed the account is working as I have tested the same account under Windows and Via the Phone it seems to be connecting ok.

Under IPsec setting:
Enable IPsec tunnel to L2TP host
Enter in the Pre-Shared Key xxxxxx,

Under L2TP PPP Options:
Allow PAP Authentication (confirmed with Cisco support that this PAP is the one to use)
I did try a few different combination such as MSCHAP, MSCHAPv2 still didn't work.

With the above setting I am unable to get it connected and kept failing on me.

If there is one of you guru can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I am missing on some plugin? or perhaps I have missed out on some tick box?

Let me know if you wanted me to upload some pic

Kind regards
Newbie User

How to upgrade from Linux lite 4.8 to 5.. without reinstalling?
Posted by: MysticReverie - 05-05-2020, 02:10 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (10)

I've tried many distros. Mainly for portable USB.
THIS distro is the best, simply becasue it's easy to use and everything WORKS!

It's the only distro I've not had to troubleshoot.. and usually fail doing so.

I managed to figure out im Running 4.8.
Can I upgrade without having to do a fresh install?

If so, how?
Thanks !

  MP3 Tag Editor? [SOLVED]
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 05-05-2020, 01:26 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Looking for something that will let me edit tag info manually on an entire folder of files. All I have that even comes close is Music Brainz, but it doesn't do this. Just need to be able to change/add title, artist, whatever to a whole folder of files. I did a folder manually just now via the Properties tab but what a pain that was; sixteen files, one at a time.

Posted by: abhi - 05-03-2020, 06:46 AM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (1)

Installed linux lite today ;D. All folders are showing full name :-[. I have very long folder names and because of that folders in the second row is pushed down because of long text folder name from first row. Is there anyway to change this so my folders dont get pushed down by long text folders. Thanx Wink

  Linux Basics: Useful Beginner Information
Posted by: H - 05-02-2020, 01:01 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (5)

I have been working my way through the above modules. Which I might say has been very helpful so far.

There is a couple points of interest I thought, that I might mention here, if I may.

1. Linux is Not Windows
2. Snaps on Ubuntu

1. I came across the last item in the list of modules and links, "Linux is Not Windows"

good read, and takes away any pre concieved ideas, or thoughts one might of had about the Linux. It clearly tells you what it is not and what it could be.

Really good stuff, and my thoughts for that topic, I think should be the very first thing one reads before they do anything else before or after an install. I would have loved this to be the first module I read from that link, not the last.

As a new user , it just gives you a background into what you are about to embark on, so rather be at the end of these modules, it needs to be in the beginning, as that is where my ideas of what I think need to be set aside. And look at it from a different perspective. Instead of thinking, this should be just like Windows, remembering newbies do not know any thing, and it would clearly and concisely put them in the picture.
Just a thought!

2. Snaps on Ubuntu
Now any newbie who sees Snaps on Ubuntu as a head line, is not thinking Linux, but rather the mind goes straight to snap on tools lol.
So one quickly grabs the article and starts reading, and see' that it is a bit like a snap on tool.
My question is though, when reading the article, and how that the snap command and the snap file installation process packages, are a little more user friendly, but come at a cost of larger files taking up larger chunks of hard drive space, less support for older machines. It also appears to not have the same theme through out, and it is not always official.

From what I have read and one of the reasons I moved to Linux Lite, was to have continuity, ease (once you get the hang of it) of use, clarity, and official cohesion through out the releases. Better use of hardware and processes.

The question begs to be asked then! Why would one want to go down the Snaps road?

I do understand that it is a choice, if you like it, try it, if not then don't, but are the creators of Linux Lite looking at it in the future?

H

Linux Lite 5.0 installed the other week, and I see Snap is part of the setup now, guess I answered my own question Huh!
