Installed CPUFREQ and computer will not boot to OS
Posted by: Rapidrob - 05-23-2020, 06:22 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

I did a stupid move. I downloaded CPUFREQ and open it up. My Quad core was set to 1.6 Ghz but is rated at 3.4 Ghz and shows this as a select-able option. I changed to the faster freq and now the computer will not boot to the OS. Grub screen is there but there is no RESTORE option to go to the backup HDD.
I can mount the primary OS HDD in an external reader. Is there any commands with steps on how to do it, to remove this CPUFREQ software from my HDD on the external dive?
Please help if you can.
Thank you.

  XFCE Weather Issue
Posted by: mdiemer - 05-23-2020, 05:30 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

I'm running LL 3.8 (I need to use an older version due to display issues). I love the xfce4 weather app, but when I go the Details tab, I get this:

Met.no LocationforecastLTS API states that this version
of the webservice is deprecated, and the plugin needs to be
adapted to use a newer version, or it will stop working within
a few months.
Please file a bug on https://bugzilla.xfce.org if no one
else has done so yet.

I have tried downloading and installing newer versions, but can't get them up and running. I'm not very good with tarballs. I installed UXterm in the hopes that it would be able to open the extracted file and install it, but nothing happens.

Anyone have any ideas?

  WoeUSB not working
Posted by: jesse.bassett - 05-22-2020, 05:21 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello,
I have Linux Lite 4.8 on an HP Compaq Pro 6000. I tried to put Windows 8.1 on USB via means of WOEUSB. Everything worked properly, however upon booting up the usb, all I saw was a flashing l like icon. What does that mean and how can I fix it?

  New to Linux
Posted by: Thaddeus_Pi - 05-21-2020, 03:16 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

Hello

I'm relatively new to Linux. I started on Linux lite just over 6 months ago to revive an old PC. I was very impressed by the OS and the fact it turned a 12 year old laptop into a usable computer again.

I'm hoping to learn and thing or two about programming (I have a very basic knowledge, and recently started reading about C) and get involved in this community as it seems pretty friendly. If anyone has suggestions on how a rookie could get started that'd be helpful!

Newbie to LinuxLite services on startup
Posted by: dono33ca - 05-20-2020, 09:08 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

Hello,

I'm new to the distro.  OpenSSh and other applications I use do not seem to be starting until first logon.  Other Debian based distro's seem to start everything without logging in, am I missing something?

Thanks.

How to upgrade from 3.8 to 4.4
Posted by: fluffyMart - 05-20-2020, 07:15 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (5)

==UPDATE==
I've found the series 4 upgrade script and the log file, and here's what I see...

martin@Latitude-E5500:/tmp$ more lite-upgrade.log
[05/20/20 20:27:58] ---------- Linux Lite Upgrade Utility ----------
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Upgrading version:
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Executing upgrades...
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Upgrade failed - /etc/llver is not 4.4

Any tips???

----

Somehow, we've got two "Lite Upgrade" buttons on our laptop. There's one with an icon and one without. For months, I've been clicking on the one with an icon (thinking the other was some weird artifact) and would see the response stating that "You are already running the latest release".

For giggles, I clicked on the other one tonight, and discovered that we're way out-of-date! We've got 3.8 and it's offering 4.4. But the upgrade utility bombs-out, simply saying "Upgrade cancelled".

Is there somewhere I can look for the actual reason for the failure? Or will we need to upgrade one step at a time somehow?

Cheers

did todays updates and now the computer will not take password
Posted by: Rapidrob - 05-20-2020, 05:23 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

I did 18 software updates today for LL via the update icon and now the computer is asking me for my password. It has NEVER asked me for a password and WILL NOT TAKE the password that I use for authorization computer.
I put the password in, the screen goes blank, and then comes back to enter your password.
If I put in a known WRONG password,it see that instantly and says wrong password. The computer was fine until I did the updates.
I can do nothing now on that computer as it wants a password I do not have.
How can I gain access to my computer?

Internet working via Ethernet cable but WiFi not working
Posted by: itsmerk - 05-19-2020, 07:45 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (6)

Hello, I recently installed Linux Lite on my ancient Lenovo3000 Y500 laptop. I am very new to Linux and dont even know basic commands either Sad However, I am liking the fact that this OS is super light. I have two issues currently:

1. I can only access the internet if I connect the laptop physically to my ADSL modem using an Ethernet cable. Wifi Option is there but does not work and the wifi Networks option appears to be dithered even after Enable Wifi option is enabled.

2. I have to use a mouse as the touch pad on the laptop does not work - I was able to resolve this issue by running this command: " sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics ", after that run this command: " synclient TapButton1=1 TapButton2=3 TapButton3=2" . Rebooted my system and touchpad started working.

Here is an extract of my system information:
