System Bootorder not found - grub menu disappeared
Posted by: adml - 04-28-2021, 03:16 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (6)

Using LL 5.2. Several updates were installed today and after the required reboot, in addition to the grub menu screen disappearing, the message, "System Bootorder not found. Initializing Defaults." began to appear. The PC however did boot. Checking Grub Customizer, the show menu box was still checked. Following the instructions in the last post of this thread...

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=305736

...I was able to make the, "System Bootorder not found. Initializing Defaults." message disappear. However, the grub menu screen still does not appear, even though the show menu box remains checked. Searching for a way to fix the issue I found this:

https://www.aioboot.com/en/show-grub2-menu/

However, the change suggested in the article is already in place on my PC. The change likely having been made because of the Grub Customizer setting for show menu.

A couple of additional notes. After some updates a few days ago I had to ditch the 4.4 kernel that I was using (so that the micro SD reader would be recognized) because of a kernel panic and a non-booting system. I'm now using 5.4, without a working micro SD card reader. Also, the Shift and Esc keys do not now, nor did they ever, make the grub menu screen appear on this PC.

Any ideas on what I can do to make the grub menu screen appear again ?

  System freeze-up
Posted by: lintek - 04-26-2021, 02:46 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (29)

I just recently installed the latest (?) version of Lite and have had a problem of the system freezing up completely.

May be related to Firefox, not sure.  Sometimes when I click a button and sometimes just out of the blue, (usually while on Firefox) the system will freeze.  Cursor freezes, and nothing works.  I have waited in the hopes it will un-freeze but it doesn't.  The only way I can fix it is to re-boot.

Any ideas?

  CUPS Samsung -m2070
Posted by: Rosario Portoghese - 04-24-2021, 05:37 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (1)

Hi
I'm new to linux.
I'm facing  a lot a problems with -m2070 printer.
When I open cups server and I look for available printers I find several entries of Samsung -m2070, here what I find:

Samsung M2070 Series (Samsung M2070 Series (SEC84251902B75C))
Samsung M2070 Series (Samsung M2070 Series)
Samsung M2070 Series (Samsung M2070 Series (driverless))

What does it mean? Should I install one of those printers?
Anyway even if I install one of the available printers at the end of the process, when _I try to print test page I get the message:"Filter Failed".
Does CUPS work properly with linux lite?

thanks

Colour (color) printing as grey on Xerox Phaser 6280DN
Posted by: Richard B - 04-24-2021, 03:00 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - No Replies

Can anyone help?  When using LL4 I could print in colour. With LL5 (recently upgraded to 5.4) I am only getting greyscale output whichever of the various suggested drivers I install. Using the default (Make and Model: Xerox Phaser 6250N Foomatic/Postscript which shows the driver as POSTSCRI.PPD on a test print) there is no colour option under Printer Options but there is under Job Options - "Printer-color-mode" is set to "monochrome" with NO other choice!.

I have now obtained "6280DN.ppd" from Xerox and tried that. Still getting monochrome only from this computer. Trying a fresh LL5.4 install on a different computer I still get monochrome only with the offered drivers but can at last get colour if I use the Xerox ppd. The versions of the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) modules - including the postscript driver - are identical.

How to edit /etc/fstab to mount a windowsshare permanent
Posted by: llmojo - 04-20-2021, 08:03 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (6)

Hello everyone

On my windows10-PC with virtualbox and LinuxLite5.4. I've created a share on windows. Now i try to follow the instruction at this link
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently. In Linuxlite the entire samba package is installed.
So i've created a mountpoint /media/win_share, a credentials-file /homelinuxlite/.smbcredentials with username, password and domain and edit /ect/fstab.

the entry in /etc/fstab looks like this right now:

Code:
//xxx.xxx.xx.x/win_share /media/win_share cifs credentials=/home/linuxlite/.smbcredentials,noauto,uid=1000,gid=1000,dir_mode=0700,file_mode=1000,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

a. Does th options have an order? or are they random?

the win_share appears on the desktop but unmounted. when i click on it i got an error massage
Quote:mount: /media/win_share:this operation can be excuted by user root

b. where is my failure ?

ps:I am new to Linux and thank you for your help

  ClamAV not updating daily database

ClamAV was recently updated to 103.2 (via Install Updates):

Tue Apr 20 10:30:00 2021 -> Trying again in 5 secs...

I disabled the daemon because I do not want to further slow down the computer, and because it is never up long enough for the processes to finish. But the manual process used to work (downloaded the database no matter how far behind it was), although it took a long time to scan even small directories.

This might help someone. I have an old HP LaserJet 5000n printer with a by-pass tray (tray 1), A4 in tray 2 and A3 in tray 3. It has been working for donkeys' years with Linux Lite and Windows. However, come a LinuxLite 5 install the A3 option vanished when following the default printer install path (which loads as "HP LaserJet 5000 Series pcl3, hpcups 3.20.3")  Sad . However, it does offer A3 if I choose "HP LaserJet 5000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.3" - which also gives more useful tray descriptions  Smile .
