¿Cómo sé si mi PC con Windows tiene UEFI?
En la búsqueda de Windows, escriba msinfo o msinfo32e inicie la aplicación de escritorio denominada Información del sistema. Busque el elemento del modo BIOS, y si el valor es UEFI, entonces tiene el firmware UEFI. Si dice BIOS Modo heredado, entonces ese es el firmware que está ejecutando.

Se admite el arranque seguro, pero a menos que sepa exactamente cómo manejarlo, puede ser un dolor de cabeza y causante de molestias no deseadas, por lo que se recomienda deshabilitar el arranque seguro para evitar este tipo de inconvenientes.

Desactivación del arranque seguro: sugerencias
Hay muchas maneras de hacer esto. Uno de estos debería funcionar para su sistema:

This is a road I'd never thought I'd go down, but we have no choice. Either we stagnate and accept the big G's ever changing algorithms, or we boldly go where others have dared.

I'm talking about the 'Pay What You Can' digital download model that has worked, and is working on other projects.

How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Known Issues:

No prompt to eject Media at the end of the Legacy install, prompt is available at the end of the UEFI install.
Release Notes - not working on first installer slide.
Desktop icons - English support only.
Grub - press the ESC key whilst booting in UEFI mode after your BIOS has posted. Use the SHIFT key if running Linux Lite in Legacy mode.
Grub menu shows Linux Lite as 'Ubuntu'. After you install Linux Lite, you can change Grub to show 'Linux Lite' (See above for Lite Tweaks new Grub feature).

Upgrading

There has been some tweaks to the Lite Upgrade code from Series 4.x. Most notably, the end dialogue has been simplified and will ask you to either Reboot, Shutdown or View Log. Continue Working is no longer viewed as a sensible option. Also, Lite Welcome will no longer be displayed after a Reboot. Just look at Lite Widget to see if you upgraded successfully to 5.6 or do:

My computer has two HDDs. The first is a Linux drive with LL5.4, with separate "/" and "/home" partitions and a swap space.
The second, "dev/sdb," is a dos disk I don't have access to (or don't know how to access).


I want to use that second one to store Timeshift restore points and an iso of my existing system (made with Systemback). But I can't write to the drive until it is formatted from dos to ext4 or something Linux can use.


How can I access and format that second hard drive?

Hello there. I added a file to my X11 config so it would minimize screen tear on intel graphics. I went away for a few hours then came back to boot up the system. Everything went fine, up until the very last moment when I heard the oh-so pleasant sound of the Linux Lite startup but without any indication I had made it to my desktop. In fact, I was still stuck on the "ASUS" loading screen (normally my computer does "ASUS", *standard LL loading* and finally "ASUS" again before showing the desktop; in this case i'm stuck on the very last "ASUS" screen).

So I removed the added file with a live session, no changes. I played around with the recovery mode, and reinstalled my nvidia drivers (btw they're not the open source ones).

TL;DR - My system loads until the very last moment when video freezes but I can still hear the startup sound. Tried messing around with recovery and drivers, nada. Any help is appreciated

And for the curious ones this was the file I added and then removed to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel-graphics.conf

Hello. The LibreOffice is not working. Everything else seems ok. I did a Fresh install of LL 5.4. I can't find any error but when I try to open Writer, I get this message box "LibreOffice 6.4 Document Recovery" Due to an error, LibreOffice crashed. All The files you were working on will now be saved...etc... with Calc & Impress, they open when I click to create new doc. But Calc cannot open any spreadsheet file... I followed the manual to uninstall, checked the repositories, reload for update and re-installed LibreOffice 6.4 but still the same...

This laptop, I already had LL 5.4 with all the packages running well but I recently replaced the HDD with SSD to make it faster. The files I was trying to open, I saved in external HDD before I changed the hard drive. I can open all those files without problem in my other computer with Windows even those saved in odf... Please help, I've spent 2 days already trying to find answers in the forum.

I tried fresh reinstalling LL 5.4 a few times too hoping it would solve the problem, but remained the same.
I'm not tech savvy. I just came to appreciate LL when I first installed it in the old hard drive because everything worked well. I submitted LL System Report, if info would help, file:///home/cherrylinux/Desktop/sysreport-Thursday-26-August-2021-18:13:17.html.

I am trying to wirelessly print to my Brother MFC 3170, I've installed the drivers from Brother, seem to have done everything correct, but still cannot connect and print to it. The driver shows as installed, location is displayed "network dnssd://Brother%20HL-3170CDW%20series._ipp._tcp.local/?uuid=e3248000-80ce-11db-8000-30055c78d182"

Getting messages that printer may not be connected

UPDATE!! 29-08-2021
I sorted it out. I went to Software & Updates>Other software>*unchecked* this "http://ppa.launchpad.net/system76/pop/ubuntu", and it worked.
