  Setup Valgrind
Posted by: Kevin Perez - 09-16-2021, 11:03 PM - Forum: Coding - Replies (7)

Hey there everyone,

Not sure how much information one needs to help me get Valgrind to be fully setup. If necessary, I will post the version of Linux Lite and Code::Blocks currently installed on my computer. HOpefully, what is included will be sufficient.

I am currently using Code::Blocks as my compiler. I have created a simple project by the name of DynIntArray. in this project there are two classes:
DynIntArray & DynVoidArray. Each one has a dynamic array. In order to verify that my project is not leaking memory, I am hoping to use Valgrind. I have already installed it, but I now need to edit the bashrc file so it includes "export VALGRIND_LIB = '/usr/lib/valgrind'. Unfortunately, once I have opened the bashrc file to edit it, I am not sure how to save it. Furthermore, the video I was watching seems to be meant for Ubuntu rather than Linux Lite. How may I open, edit, and save the changes I wish to make to the .bashrc file? Hopefully, with some assistance, I can check to ensure the project is not leaking memory.

Thank you for reading this post, and I very much look forward to reading your responses.

HP Chromebook 11 G4 No Sound
Posted by: Jeffrey Benshoff - 09-13-2021, 03:50 AM - Forum: Sound - No Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have an HP Chromebook 11 G4 Chromebook. Chrome OS is EOL, Followed instructions from Neverware, and updated bios, and now can install pretty much any OS I choose.  I choose Linux Lite, due to it working so well for me in the past. The problem lies where I have no sound. The card comes up as "Dummy"  It is an Intel Card. I try Aplay and says it dont exist. PulseAudio dont do to much either. I will attach information I captured in settings on the hardware I am using, and the messages I get.  To help, I have tried several different versions of Linux, Ubuntu, Debian,Fedora, and of course Linux Lite. The only one that actually gives me sound is Fedora.  But it is so low you have to put the laptop speaker next to your ear to hear it. Sound worked perfectly on regular chrome os.  Spent a lot of time on this, and I actually have three more of these of the same chromebook, I need to do.  I appreciate your help.

Jeff

  LinuxLite Web Site
Posted by: geeksw - 09-12-2021, 07:44 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

Hey gang;
Been a linux user since "old" Redhat 5.2 in 1998 .  I use Linuxlite because I use old hardware (which it runs on), I like XFCE, and I like that its downstream from Debian/Ubuntu.  Your web site, especially your download page is clogged with ads, circular links, and links to junk software.  There is not, that I have found, an obvious download link on the download page to download the latest version (all the links I found seem to lead elsewhere). I finally got the download from the ftp mirror.  Gang, I really like and use this distribution, but are you trying to commit web design suicide??.  To the web site designer, "Glad your here, but please go back to the drawing board, site is really bad / hard to use because of the above".  Have a great day.

Linux Lite 5.6 won't boot to hard drive
Posted by: BoBrown - 09-10-2021, 10:16 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

I posted this once but didn't see it after a few hours.  So apologies if it appears twice.  I installed Linux Lite 5.6 to a SSD using a newer motherboard system with UEFI and a Ryzen CPU.  I was then able to boot from that SSD fine.  I then moved the SSD to the target system an old Athlon 64b 3500+ PC.  It will not boot to the hard drive. I've also tried a Seagate rotating drive with the same results.  The drives are recognized by the BIOS (non secure) but I only see a cursor on the display.

Running from the DVD I can see that the partitions seem to be correct using Gparted.  I have attached a txt file of the system HW and a link to a screen shot of the Gparted is here:

  On Screen Keyboard
Posted by: Larry Stehno - 09-10-2021, 12:18 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Hello Everyone:  I installed 5.4 on a Gateway notebook and the keyboard is not the best.  I need a on-screen keyboard but have not been able to find a built-in one in 5.4.  Where can I find one that I can download and install?
Thanks,
Planorez

Login loop after recent update - can't access system
Posted by: kp_auburn - 09-09-2021, 09:46 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (7)

Hi all!

I've been using Linux Lite for a year without any real issues. After a recent update I'm hitting the login loop (back to login screen after entering the password over and over again) and can't access the system. I've tried some of the fixes that were linked to Ubuntu website in this forum but so far none of them did the trick of allowing me past the login screen. Is anyone here available to provide some troubleshooting help? I'm facing some data loss if I have to reinstall so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kris
