Plugged-in ethernet connection messes with boot

Hiya all, got my late-2011 Macbook Air all set up. Everything's good, and the OS definitely performs better than straight Ubuntu. Just one thing. With an ethernet connection plugged in (via a USB adapter, since this is an Apple) the machine will go through the usual boot sequence but once the swirling circle disappears, the screen goes black and stays black. Unplugging at that point doesn't help.
It's def the ethernet connection, other USB connections don't have that effect. It happens regardless of whether the wireless adapter is enabled or disabled.
Anything I can do to overcome this?

I burned a dvd and I tried the install on my old Acer (32g) and it loaded the first screen. But I can't get it that far on my newer Acer. It is a Legacy. From what I read I should be downloading the Legacy or the UEFI version.Ok, I'm 76 and probably missing it but I can't find a download that states Legacy or UEFI?Help.
I've been running Lite for lot's of years and this is the first time I'm lost. And I did move the USB/CDRom to the top position. Thanks for the help.blessings

Installation hangs at "Updates and other software"

[EDIT] This has resolved itself. When the installation started from the direct install option in the boot menu kept hanging, I canceled it. Upon canceling the system booted from the flash drive. I tried installing from the live OS again and this time, it worked.
2011 Macbook Air. Previously had Ubuntu on this machine. I formatted the (sole) SSD, then booted into Linux Lite from USB flash drive. Now trying to install but installation hangs at "Updates and other software", so doesn't even proceed to installation types. Been hanging there for more than 10 mins now.
I also tried direct install from the USB boot menu ... same thing.
So.... what now?

Hibernate problem using wireless keyboard and mouse (Solved)

Ok, friends,I have a wireless keyboard and mouse which I am using on an hp desktop that has the newest linux-lite 20.04. Suspend Hibernate, and Hybrid Sleep don't work by just hitting enter on my wireless keyboard or by pressing the mouse. I have to press the power button and then it will come on quickly, because it really was in hibernation, but the touch of the keyboard or mouse doesn't bring it up, which brings up the subject of the usb dongle for the wireless keyboard and mouse. It seems to not want to wake up from hibernate. Only the power button wakes it up. I've tried different things online using "/etc/rc.local", but that is only a temporary fix, so that when I turn the power completely off and back on, hibernate doesn't work again by touching the wireles keyboard and mouse. How can this be fixed? I would like to hibernate the machine and then just press enter on my keyboard for it to come back on.Karen
*Ok, I found the answer to my query above. It's at this link at answer #32. This worked. https://askubuntu.com/questions/848698/w...701#874701* What worked for me was doing the above instructions to wake with a wired or wireless keyboard. My wireless mouse worked still. If I did the above instructions to wake with my wireless mouse, it would, but then wireless mouse was frozen until a restart. I don't know how to fix the clicking of the wireless mouse to wake from sleep and still having it work afterward.

I have recently installed Linux lite on a second hand PC (Lenovo Ideapad 81h5). There are no network drivers available, so I have been using the advanced network manager for the time being. This, as far as I can tell, does not support automatic network discovery or switching networks other than automatic connection. Any recommendations would be appreciated. This is my first linux install.
So to help any other Linux Lite beginners who might have problems, I would advise just exploring all the nooks and crannies that the OS has to offer. I solved this problem by playing around with the desktop panel settings and adding the Indicator Plugin. It usually just takes some brute forcing.

Lite 3.8 Blank Screen After Opening Lid

Hi, Newbe, here.
Not strictly a startup question although it does have a connection. I have posted this question on another site, but, although I received very good replies, I didn't get a working solution. As this is a Lite specific forum, I'm hoping someone here will be able to further advise me.
I have Lite 3.8 installed on my old Samsung NP-N110 laptop and it seems to work fine. When I close the lid and reopen after a time, it asks for a password. This is fine - although I can't figure out how to stop this - but when I enter the password, the screen goes blank and remains blank. I am unable to do anything with it except for hitting the power button to shut it off. It seems to close down OK, as when I hit the power button it chugs for a while then shuts down. Also, the numlock keeps turning on.
So if anyone has an answer to any of the following I'd be grateful:
1. How do I stop the p/w request from appearing when I've closed the lid for a time? (This is on mains as well as battery.)
2. What's happening and how do I prevent the blank screen after I've entered the p/w?
3. How do I get the numlock to stay off on boot up or at a p/w input?
Thank you.
FYI: the p/w request at startup is on, but the same problem with the p/w after opening lid happens even when this is off; the BIOS is set to numlock on.
Matt
