  Linux Lite Widget Not Show
Posted by: Jesús TEJERINA RIVERA - 01-02-2022, 06:23 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (5)

Widget not show, problem is:  /etc/conky-lite/widget have old syntax. conky use new syntax.

convert.lua have many errors.

I need "widget file" in new syntax.

Thanks.

  Ciao everybody!!!

Hello there,

I'm Alex writing from Italy and very happy to first and foremost wish you all a great 2022 and thanks creator and supporters for the beautiful OS I'm starting to learn!

I'm almost sure I will appear as annoying and dumb as a middle-age new user could be, but after searching for days on the Web, reading through all the related forum posts and getting back to the Web many times I've seriously considered myself too stupid to keep going on and simply reboot on the default windows installed on my machine...

The first issue was with the connection, since the wlan card it's not recognized... solved by using my phone and a USB connection (great solution, thanks to anyone who wrote about it on the Web!).

The second, not solved at all, is related to pwd management, since the requested one for installing packages was not recognized (I haven't set any pwd during installation) and even if I've changed two times the root one using the advanced features during start-up, after restarting and trying to install packages I still receive an authentication error. Same with users management, since the root profile does not recognize both the password I've (successfully, given what Ubuntu said both times) changed in the advanced screen.

Ok, since I'm totally sure that who's reading this, and have just some little experience with Linux and Linux Lite in particular, would be looking up to the sky sighing and thinking something like: "that"s 2022 and there's still people like this around..." I prefer to stop annoying you over and hope that some help could anyway reach this seasoned newbie without disturbing too much anyone.

Thanks again for the really beautiful OS, has been already GREAT to be able to surf the Web, try some of the provided suggestions (as for connecting) and spend a couple of browsing sessions outside of Redmond domain, I really hope to be able to really join you in the next future!

With all my wishes for a wonderful 2002,
kind regards from Italy!!!

Alex

How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Some helpful snippets from the latest Help Manual:

UEFI Support link
- https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/uefi-secure-boot/

Details:

Kernel: 5.4.0-91 ( custom kernels also available via our Repository for versions 3.13 - 5.15 )
Firefox: 95.0.1
Thunderbird: 78.14.0
LibreOffice: 6.4.7.2
VLC: 3.0.9.2
Gimp: 2.10.18
Base: 20.04.3

Known Issues:

No prompt to eject Media at the end of the Legacy install, prompt is available at the end of the UEFI install.
Release Notes - not working on first installer slide.
Desktop icons - English support only.
Grub - press the ESC key whilst booting in UEFI mode after your BIOS has posted. Use the SHIFT key if running Linux Lite in Legacy mode.
Grub menu shows Linux Lite as 'Ubuntu'. After you install Linux Lite, you can change Grub to show 'Linux Lite' (See above for Lite Tweaks new Grub feature).

- Open /etc/default/grub as Administrator.
- Comment out: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` and leave GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite' uncommented.
- Should look like:
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite'
#GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
- sudo update-grub

Help Manual will be updated in the Final release.

Live USB/DVD/VirtualBox/Vmware:

Login is automatic, no credentials are required. The image can be written to a 2gb or larger USB stick, or a writable DVD. Alternatively, you can use the dd command: sudo dd if=linux-lite-5.8-rc1-64bit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M where 'x' is the letter of your usb stick. In linux to find out the letter of your usb stick, open a terminal and type: df -h It is usually listed as 'media' or similar. Please see the built in Help Manual if you require a more detailed explanation of this procedure.

A good, simple point and click USB ISO burner is https://www.balena.io/etcher/ or https://rufus.ie/
In our testing, Etcher and Rufus (for Windows only) have proven to be the most reliable. Etcher is available for Mac, Windows & Linux.

If the screen locks during Live mode, type linux into the user box and click on the Login button (no password required)

Minimum Recommended Specs:
1Ghz processor
768mb ram
8gb HDD/SD
VGA screen capable of 1024x768 resolution
DVD drive or USB port for the ISO image

Preferred Specs:
1.5GHz processor+
1024mb ram+
20gb HDD/SSD+
VGA, DVI or HDMI screen capable of 1366x768 resolution+
DVD drive or USB port for the ISO image

Login to the live desktop is automatic.

The first thing you MUST do after a fresh install of Linux Lite is run Menu, Favorites, Install Updates.

As this is a RC release, there are bound to be bugs etc. Please help make the final stable for other people by participating in this RC. Please report any bugs and feedback in this thread.

Thank you

Jerry and the team.

Slow startup of Linux Lite 5.6
Posted by: Jan Mertens - 12-30-2021, 09:15 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (4)

Hi,
I installed Linux Lite 5.6  on an old Medion Laptop - it works fine once started up but the boot process takes a long time.

Browsing the forum I tried a number of things but without any significant improvement.
Would someone have a piece of advice for me? Help would be highly appreciated!

  Sleep/Hiberation Issue?
Posted by: tksolway - 12-29-2021, 04:47 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

I've installed 5.6 on a system that I am trying to run as a background server.  Periodically, it looks like the system goes into hibernation or sleep (not a laptop).  I've checked the BIOS for any power settings (there are none), and tried disabling all of the power saving features found in settings -> power manager.  I'm wondering if there is somewhere else I need to disable something?

I'm still trying to pinpoint the exact circumstances that see the hibernation.  I'm seeing the issue after I move it into it's final location.  It's working fine after the initial boot (and if I keep an active connection to it, it's been up for hours), but if I disconnect and leave it it drops off the network completely (port is down on the switch) which makes me think it's full hibernation.
