  • CPU: Intel Core i9-10850K CPU @ 3.60GHz

  • MEMORY: 32Gb

  • VIDEO CARD: nVidia GeForce GTX 1650

  • Kernel: 5.x
It searches package names (dpkg) that are installed, then lists all but the current kernel. The 5.0 version will also do more to clean up the /boot folder.

@JohnD

Not 100% on where - I'd have to look and not in front of my LL box.. I'll look into unless another chimes in...

But this is a good reason/use for the Kernel Removal tool.
As you can see in the tool - there can be up to 4 sets of files for a single version.

So in your /boot and the tool - they pretty much mimic versions with the exception of few stragglers - that appear to be "image" and as you suspect probably located elsewhere.
Using the Removal tool and selecting each for the version specified, will clean up old kernels with ease versus scouting to each directory... AND the removal tool does NOT display/remove the currently in use kernel version which looking at /boot is most likely why you see the 101 displayed.

Guess what happens if you inadvertently remove those..??

Also in the same sense the Kernel Installer will allow easy install of Kernels with many versions available.

If cleaning whether with the tool or otherwise - I would not remove the in use and keep 1 or previous kernels just on the in case you need to fall back...

Currently in my boot directory are the following files:

But Linux Lites Kernel Remover reports:

Because the Kernel Remover finds more Linux kernels than I see in /boot, I wonder how and in which directories does the kernel remover search for existing Linux kernels?

This is no criticism of Linux Lite's Kernel Remover, I only try to deepen my Linux knowledge.
