Hibernate and suspend work a little different with Linux I've noticed versus Windows..

For a Laptop running on battery I want Hibernate, suspend will trickle the battery to depletion,  I noticed using suspend my power "light" pulsates.
Resuming from hibernate will appear as if it was rebooted... Power button to wake, Grub is displayed, then tty screen.. Leave it and allow it to complete, it will resume where left off, in my case it will resume to the screensaver, I swipe mouse pad or tap a key, screensaver is dismissed and I resume same same...

I use Suspend on my desktop, where its constantly plugged in. In suspend the PC will awake much faster (more so like what your thinking) pressing "ENTER" will wake the PC from suspend, sometimes the screen may stay asleep where a swipe of the mouse will awake it.
Same fashion the power button light pulsates while suspend...

You can hibernate the desktop, but you do need to wake with the power button.. This was a pain for the wifey, she doesn't like to wait :)

Suspend resumes faster but continues to use power (Sleep??) - Stored in memory
Hibernate slower to resume no power consumption - Stored on disk

Hope this helps answer..

Greetings,
Yes,have disable that item.  One  system works like it should on AC, but battery does not come back on.  Second system will not respond at all to keyboard.  Have noted with going to hibernate, the computers both shut off.  Opening lid, pressing power shows a start-up response

Greetings,
Made the change.  On one system, set power to do nothing.  The other on AC - nothing, on battery, when battery is critical - shut down.  When laptop is closed - lock screen.
Closed screens on both, waited a few minutes, reopened, one with nothing settings returned to desktop, the other with settings got logon screen, logged on, got desktop.

Might have it, but will keep monitoring.
Thanks very much.

Open your Light Locker Settings, and disable Light Locker.  Also enter the Session and Startup tool.  Then go to the Application Autostart tab and uncheck Screen Locker.

Use the Power Manager to make your settings for what happens when you close your lid.  You may need to choose a setting for both On AC and On Battery.

The ability for the system to close the lid is set to show a logon screen upon re-opening.  This happens, but the screen goes blank after logon.  No desktop appears.  This issue is on three separate systems, all running 2.6.  All updates have been run.

Sometimes requires turning off cptr, sometimes a flurry of key tapping may bring back a second logon screen. Desktop may appear but not always.  Again, settings are the default that come with the install.

Any advise greatly welcomed.
