Sorry for the late reply. I would like to thank all for the support provided above!

Indeed Jerry.

I'm not sure how messed his Menu is. In my case, I wrongfully clicked the reset button once and my menu got messed up. I looked at the basic settings and it wasn't hard to bring it back which is what I offered in that little script. My menu did get restored with it, so I'm not sure how much damage he is trying to correct. Here is my Menu after the script (unless I restored something else that I can't recall hence not included in the script)

I remember the Settings, lock, user, and power buttons got to the top of the menu and also few Lite Apps were missing, specially the Favorites ones.

The current situation is not ideal, I agree. In Series 4.x this won't be an issue. Now that we have our own applications, they will slot into their respective categories and there will be no more manual menu entry creations, that's what causes issues. Work is being done behind the scenes to clean this up for the future. The only major change from 3.x to 4.x in the Menu is we'll have to find a new home for the Help Manual and Install Updates in 4.x.

Unfortunately, you're in a situation you can't recover from, unless of course you have a restore point set in Systemback.
In future, please don't check and uncheck items in the Menu without checking with us first. Thank you :)

Maybe a better idea I think would be making the Restore System Configuration button work to restore the Linux Lite menu back to it's default state, currently it doesn't seem to do that, not on 2.8 anyway.
People aren't going to check in here before they make those types of changes.
From memory I think I broke my menus a while ago unchecking/deleting entries too, the plan was at the time to leave the Whisker menu as it was & put an Applications Menu on the panel beside the Whisker menu and remove everything but the WINE launcher entries so I had Whisker for everything & then beside it an Applications menu for only the WINE stuff.
What I unfortunately discovered was editing the applications via the new Applications menu also affected the Whisker menu, as everything I removed from the new Apps menu was also removed from the Whisker menu at the same time.
I think I reinstalled the OS to sort that mess out, LOL.
Definately something XFCE could handle a lot better than it currently does.

Perhaps even removing the 'Edit Applications' from the Whisker icon's right-click menu might alleviate some future issues?
Still leaving Alacarte to be run from Terminal if one so desires  8)

EDIT: I see if the original Whisker menu is removed from the Panel, and then added again from the Panel > Add New Items menu, the right click on the icon's option to Edit Applications no longer works and is greyed out.

You're most welcome.

Can you specify what didn't work?
What part of the menu does not seem to be back for you?
Did you get System Information and Lite Update back?
Can you post a screenshot of your menu?

Hi again penglezos,

Download and extract the restore_menu script to your Desktop.

Open Terminal and execute:

Code: [Select]
$ cd ~/Desktop/restore_menu/
$ ./restore_menu.sh

That should restore your menu. I actually broke mine in the process and this did fix the basic for me.

Cheers!

Dear Ralphy,

Once again thanks for the reply, fix and sorry to hear that you broke your menu!! Unfortunately the patch is not working!  :( :(

penglezos,

I'm willing to script a little fix (as is but with good intensions) to try to restore the default menu for you if you are willing to try it out.

Would you like to give it a go before reinstalling?

Dear Ralphy,

Thank you for replying and trying to give a solution into my problem! Of course I'm glad to try out any alternative method in order to avoid reinstalling so yes sir I'm waiting for the fix!!

Dear Jerry,

I would like to thank you for the fast response! I understand that something really serious is going on but I can't figure out why these type of settings cannot be restored back!
Unfortunately I didn't made any backup so I guess I have to reinstall LL!

Once again thank you!

Have you made any alterations to the Menu, or have you reset the Menu?

Dear Jerry,

First things first I unchecked only the education and games section. After that a lot of items from the menu disappeared. When I tried to reset into system default settings nothing happens.

Thanks for your reply,
