Yep. Getting harder. Xorg and proprietary driver compatibility are a bear on certain gear to handle.
I roll with VESA on certain hardware < SIS, Savage, Via> . Others are NOVEAU when 32 bit is involved.

But then. I use a Play Station One with 50 cds when I want to game. Or dosbox on older 32 bit or Raspberry Pi systems. My single core atom netbooks like dosbox also.
Older Netbooks are 32 bit.
