I get around (most of) this by keeping a USB wireless chiclet on hand that IS supported in the kernel - which is pretty much anything that isn't Broadcom.
N4RPS, was aware of that... but copying these drivers this way has gotten me into trouble in the past.
probably the broadcom firmware install you did on the previous install. A live cd will not have everything.
