@Zontar41
If you left a W10 compter off for a few months, it WILL take hours/days to update.
Especially if you dont have a SSD harddrive, which not a lot of computers I work with have... for now since I don't recommend anything else.
In another words, to make your W10 "fonctionnal" change to an SSD. Same for last few MacOS.
Guess it's another reason I like LL, works like a charm on anything.
Cheers!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Glad to be here and happy to have a functional, well-structured OS like LL, without all of the headaches of Win10. I think using a computer shouldn't be an ordeal, you should be able to be functional and get your tasks done, so that's why I switched my desktop PC over to LL.
I agree that for the average PC user Win10 is really a pain to use and maintain. We still have a Win10 laptop, and I have to use Win10 for my job, but the more I use LL the less interested I am in using Win10. A few weeks ago I was required to install Win10 updates on my personal laptop and it took about 2 hours using a fast cable connection to download and install the updates, along with several reboots. Completely ridiculous...
I look forward to learning more about LL and Linux in general.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
Having used Windows for years, first time I installed LL I was done in about 30 minutes WITH updates and without a reboot... incredible.
Everything worked (WiFi, Sound, etc.) and had Libre Office. It took me a few minutes to grasp that I was done and didn't need to fiddle a few hours to install an OS, Office, browser...
I litteraly said to myself "This can't be true!", but it was so I'm still here
.
With W10 I have never seen so much people fed up with an MS OS. (myself included)
Getting something(s) force down your throat is not pleaseant and many time people are "stuck" with it because of the "Lemmings effect".
Part of my income is supporting MS products, and more and more I fell sometimes "dirty" knowing there is better but can't speak about it since my employer gets a "cut" and "it's my job".
I unfortunately, really, need my job
. Their lost, I shall keep my happiness to myself! hehe
Cheers!

Hello Everyone. I'm new to Linux and Linux Lite. Formerly a Windows 7/10 user. I was ok with using Win7 for many years, but do not like Win10 and all the cost/performance/update issues that MS added with it. As I get older I'm trying to simplify my computer experience, not make it more challenging dealing with Win10.
Using a Live USB I tried various flavors of Linux, including Mint, Ubuntu, and Manjaro. All are very good and I liked them all. Also tried Fedora, didn't care for that one as much. I found Linux Lite and for some reason it seemed to be the best fit for me. Good combination of ease of use, pre-installed software, Xfce, etc.
I just installed LL 4.2 on my old desktop PC, and LL runs perfectly on it. I have a lot of exploring to do, coming from the Win7/10 environment, so I'm looking forward to learning more about LL and Linux OS in general.
Thanks.
