If Abiword and Gnumeric meet your needs, that is good, because they require fewer resources. Some recommend FreeOffice, but it doesn't work on the newer .docx and .xlsx files.

sudo apt-get autoremove
will remove those files that are no longer being used.

As for the menu entry, the menu editor can be used to 'turn off' the offending entries so that they no longer appear. As for removing them entirely, that is somewhat more complex, because they reside in more than one location...

Were I in your shoes, I'd remove Lubuntu Software Center with the hope that it hasn't damaged things very much already. Worst case scenario, if it has broken anything of significance, then reinstalling LL will fix it. ...

Thanks, guys. I have taken both your advice and removed both software centers and the updater.

Also "with my knowing just enough Linux to be dangerous," I installed AbiWord and uninstalled LibreOffice with Synaptic because I think it is lighter and all I needed is a word processor. Couldn't LibreOffice out of menu so uninstalled AbiWord with Synaptic and reinstalled LibreOffice.

Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

Haven't figured out how to clear this up. Should I just reinstall LL and not repeat the same mistake?

Apologies to Valtam.

UIAM, for stability purposes, the Linux Lite 'Install Updates' function holds back 'bleeding-edge' kernel updates, as such updates could (and, from my experience, usually do) cause problems with what makes Linux Lite work as it does. You see, the Software Updater in Ubuntu Software Center/Lubuntu Software Center does not restrict kernel or other updates in any way.

The scripts are GREAT for obtaining the absolute essentials, but to add EVERYTHING would be totally impractical. Personally, I hope that one day, something can be done by someone to develop a Software Center for Linux Lite. An LL Software Center would be a BIG help for people who haven't yet worked out the finer points of installing new software - myself included...

Update Manager is pulled in along with Ubuntu Software Center. Linux Lite is not designed to work with Update Manager as mentioned in previous forum so in that regard we don't support it. Linux Lite has started development on its own update application that will sit in the tray but we haven't heard from that developer in a while so it's future is not guaranteed.

Maybe it installed with the Lubuntu Software Center or the Ubuntu Software Center that I installed. Anyway I wonder is PPA's for LL could be added and it would notify when updates are available from LL, Ubuntu, etc.

Hmmm. I can't find that menu entry on my system. Maybe it was installed or sucked in with another package. I suppose it could be a difference in the 32/64 releases but that seems unlikely. What program/command is the menu entry linked to? To find this I usually use Main Menu (menu>settings>main menu).

I am familiar with the "Linux Lite Updates" or "Install Updates" that runs in the terminal from previous editions of Linux Lite.  This edition (2.0) has a "Software Updater" which either I did not notice before or was not in the previous editions. It appears to just use PPA's from Ubuntu but will let you add other PPA's.

Could the PPA(s) from Linux Lite be added to it for an automatic updater?
