I've tried Xubuntu this weekend because of my icon-problem.  ;D
And it is by the 'shutdown and save your desktop' method able to keep the icons where I want be (as far as I can see for the moment).
I have done a lot of updating, installing and uninstalling software on 14.04 and everything is not moving there.   8)

No, I'm sorry. No persistency...

It was something I experienced in SolydX. Booting stopped because the splash at boot was not compatible with the new kernel. Sombody helped me out ('nosplash' and sudo update-grub) and I thought 'let's experiment with 'nosplash'  at boottime in LL 2.2. But no way. :D

Keep searching..

The problem is not 'Xfce' although they found a (not always working) patch
which I know for about one year.
See:  https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=585.msg4012#msg4012
If so I would have had the bug in Mint, in SolydX and Xubuntu for instance. I don't. :D
I repeat: great distro, but this is annoying.

Btw. it is not impossible I have found what it is, but testing if it is persistent is rather tidy,
so I'll report back.  ;)

There are 100's of distros out there and little in the way of uniformity. I would have started this on the XFCE forums, they're the experts on this material. That way when you get a solution that works, you could share it here with everyone :)

And certainly: it happens often with the updating of software.
Further is LL2.2 a fine distro (like version 2.)

21/2/'15 I have also seen it in Makulu Xfce.

Delete everything in session folder /home/your_username/.cache/sessions
Ctrl +Alt +T to open Terminal and enter this:
Code: [Select]
rm -rf $HOME/.cache/sessions/*Put the icons how you want to keep them.
Then save session the first time you shutdown/reboot
There is checkbox Save session for future logins when open a shutdown dialog.
Next time you shutdown/reboot, keep the save session checkbox unchecked.
Worked on my virtal machine.

Thanks Misko, I just tried that but it didn't work.
17 out of 28 jumped to the left when rebooted.
I did notice when I clicked on Restart that as the panel disappeared some of the icons jumped to the left in the half second or so before the rest of the screen went blank.
Never noticed that before, perhaps it's something in the shutdown process that triggers it.

This problem is not Linux Lite specific it is a bug in Xfce as can be found on their forum.
http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7597
http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7510
It appears the bug was reported as far back as 2012.
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9192

Yes I know.
And I like to write about it every time (certainly after installing a new distro), because I want them (Xfce) to correct this.
Btw. I don't have the problem with Snowy Linux, SolydX, not in Mint 17 (Xfce-side) I wrote and I have not seen it in Xubuntu.
So it is not fully Xfce it appears?!?!

Does it have to do something with 'Systemd'?

Icons on the desktop must always be steady until the user moves them.
In the past Gnome has had some problem with it on the panels. But that was patched.
Lxde in Wattos has had the problem. And it was corrected.

Most of the time I never experienced else than steady icons as long as I see desktops
(About 30 years now. Great tool.)

If not: something is not right as far as I can see and then I can't trust the building.
Other distro's can do things right. :D

I've been using these commands to lock/unlock them which so far has worked ok.
Put them where I wanted and used - sudo chattr +i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons*
Any new ones will still be placed top left and can be moved around but after a restart or Desktop refresh (F5) they will jump back to the top left position until I run  - sudo chattr -i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons* to unlock them.
Once unlocked drag them to where I want & run - sudo chattr +i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons* again and then they stay where they should with a refresh or restart.

I even tried turning off the Desktop icons altogether (Icons tab of Desktop settings) and just made a panel launcher to expand all the Desktop icons but discovered the Desktop right-click menu completely changes with the icons turned off & while it was ok to use the Desktop stuff from an expanding launcher I didn't like the resulting right-click menu options at all, all the 'Create' options are gone...

I did a fresh install on a partition of LL 2.2. and some applications (for testing).
It went fine. I made a decent desktop with some icons here and there (also HD-icons).

But after 24 hours, when I revisited the distro all my HD-icons were on the left.
It looked a little like Ubuntu Unity, which I deeply don't like. So I don't win a thing. Let me think again...
(No problem. :D In the meantime I use Mint Qiana (flawlessly) and PCLOS also very nice.
I also have SolydX. Very stable and the forum very helpfull.)

My icons dont jump around the screen but everytime i boot the laptop they are in a different order then when i turned the laptop off. No idea why this is.
Life on earth is expensive but it does include a free trip around the sun.

Not sure if this will help anyone with this issue but I'll mention it anyway.
I ran updates yesterday for the first time in about 2 weeks (LL2.0), now on every startup 4 of my 25 desktop icons jump to the top left corner.
Before that update it hadn't happened for a couple of months and was seemingly rare and random.
Now it's every startup, and it's the same 4 icons each time, I have 25 in total set across the bottom as close as I can get them to the top of the bottom panel (only use 1 panel) and counting from the left it's always numbers 7, 12, 16 & 24 that get moved.
If there is another icon already in the top left corner position when starting it moves it down to the third place and places 2 of the moved icons above it and 2 below it.
For me anyway it seems something in the update yesterday has triggered it, what that is I have no idea...
