At this point in time GNU/BSD/LINUX/Android/Hurd who cares. As long as the code base works: Use it. Make it. Break it. Open it. Source it. Share it. Care about it. But don't bicker about the the name the context the reason the person the place or the thing.
For the world needs the source the source does not need the world.

Well, I am one who thinks the thread title should be changed from "Frustration abounds"

To something more helpful and realistic like

"Updating linux lite live usb  not working" or something else pertinent to the issue that google will help incoming users look for when trying to solve their own issues. I just hate sloppy titles that have little to do with the problem at hand. Especially negative titles that are usually PBKAU related. Like these.

Not trying to being negative or critical of the OP. It just seems common sense and good manners to me. Being from the South.

But I am just a user here.  So just a personal opinion and nothing more.

It is my personal belief that GNU requires too much from the distributions that carry the name GNU/Linux when you limit what can be added to a distro, as in no use of proprietary drivers even though open source drivers are not available you are limiting the freedom of the user not encouraging it. One of the main goals of this distro is to make it easy for users to migrate from the windows environment. Forcing the requirements of GNU on the distro would undermine the ability to achieve that goal.

Let's keep this discussion respectful, throwing around inflammatory accusations like "Or are you saying Richard Stallman, and the whole Free Software Foundation is wrong, and their work is a lie? Hm..." does not progress the discussion.

I'll let my previous post stand for itself.

Linux alone sounds better, but I believe it is important to call it GNU/Linux. Many people don't know what GNU is, yet they are using it every day... And they think Linus created the whole system...

You can only call something GNU/Linux if it is 100% GNU + the Linux Kernel. Anything else is misleading and inaccurate and totally ignores the efforts of people outside of the GNU project, and of course the whole point of this discussion is to label things correctly.
GNU/Linux Lite, or Linux Lite, as its official naming. Don't know why would it be incorrect. They are using modified GNU.
Or are you saying Richard Stallman, and the whole Free Software Foundation is wrong, and their work is a lie? Hm...

"Anything else is misleading and inaccurate and totally ignores the efforts of people outside of the GNU project." And calling it only Linux doesn't ignore the efforts of the GNU project people? I never said Linux Lite should be called GNU/Linux only. I was talking about adding GNU. Of course it's your official name. So you can call it whatever you want. I never said the "Lite" shouldn't be there.

And what is 100% GNU + Linux for you anyway?

It's like when Linus said, that it's OK to call it Linux, as long as the credit is given to everyone, yet he totally ignores the GNU... And he's against calling it GNU/Linux... Funny guy he is.

Debian GNU/Linux
Ubuntu GNU/Linux
OpenSuse GNU/Linux
GNU/Linux Lite
Trisquel GNU/Linux
etc...

Even Debian and Trisquel calls it GNU/Linux. The same as your GNU/Linux is named "Linux Lite". Even Ubuntu in documentations somewhere I think, and others... You don't have to use GNU to it. I take the name "Linux Lite" the same way as "Ubuntu" or "Debian", or "Fedora". It was just a suggestion to add GNU, since your distro name contains the word Linux. I don't know why it wouldn't be giving any credit to everyone... And I don't get what you mean by 100% GNU+Linux. 100% free?

Not sure if by "nit-picking" you mean me... I wasn't hostile, and sorry if it looked like that. He said he's looking forward to learning more about Linux. So I wanted to point out some info. What I think is important info, for me atleast.

And of course it is a choice. Linux alone sounds better, but I believe it is important to call it GNU/Linux. Many people don't know what GNU is, yet they are using it every day... And they think Linus created the whole system...

Hello!

Yes, such nit-picking has driven countless multitudes away from many a Linux forum, and even away from (GNU/)Linux itself...

Thanks Rogue Willie, and referring to Linux Lite as GNU/Linux Lite is a personal choice, certainly something we would not force on anyone :)

See here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/introductions/linux-documentaries/ for an understanding of the history of linux and why some people use certain terminology when referring to free software and open source.

When I read the thread title. I thought this was a Windows 8.1 thread.

Not free. Not Live. Not multicomputer installable. Not legacy computer compatible. Keyloggers. EULA. Lawyers. Call home. Back Doors.

But I can see I was mistaken. Never mind.

Then first learn, that it's a GNU/Linux. ;) I know, most people call it Linux, I don't blame you. But Linux is the kernel, it annoys me sometimes.

Free Software Foundation created their own GNU/Hurd. They created the free operating system "GNU", and kernel was the last missing piece. And Linux kernel just came out. Hurd was still in the development, It still is. But now, you can use it. I'm looking forward to GNU/Hurd (you won't call that Linux, there's nothing Linux about it).

I guess the Hurd development went slow, because of the Linux existence (they don't need it anymore), they wouldn't even start developing it, but they wanna finish it.

I wonder what's the Hurd's hardware compatibility(or should i say Mach?). I guess not good, since it's still in the development. Annoying is, when people call Linus father of the Linux OPERATING SYSTEM. -_- What operating system? GNU? Oh... Richard Stallman.

I like Free Software Foundation's work, freedom, that's why GNU exists now.

I think Debian and Arch has GNU/Hurd systems.
From what I know, Android uses Linux kernel too, no one calls it Linux...

And for me personally, my Wi-Fi works from USB bootable system, but I don't install proprietary drivers.

But I'm glad there are non-100% free systems like "Linux Lite" some computers doesn't work well without linux blobs, which are proprietary.

And "Linux Lite" is for me the best non-100% free system for beginners I used, and I tested many. And I love XFCE, you can customize it however you like, and it's light.

"Linux Lite" talks about freedom on their website, so I think it would be good to name it GNU/Linux Lite, if you wanna support freedom. I know it doesn't look so good like "Linux Lite", but it's not about what looks good, or what is used most.. It's about what is right. A lot of GNU/Linux users don't even know they use GNU operating system, they don't even know who Richard Stallman is... And all credit goes to Linus, which is very bad.

Thats why you are getting errors, once you've installed to your hard disk you'll be fine. The live environment is not meant to be fully functional, it's just to take a look around :)
